"I doubt her even though I don't want to. I don't believe a word of it. I don't believe that my Chitra can do that to me."
He was sitting alone in teary eyes at a pondside. These words roamed in his minds and he was fighting fiercely against his own suspicions. His near and dear ones knew that he was not a jealous or supicious natured man, but where was love there remained an apt chance of suspicion and jealousy. It was said that jealousy incresed love while suspicion destroyed it. Arjuna's love for Chitra was new hence he did not understand her true nature till that day. He was quite young at that time and all knew that in youth even a wiser man could do any sin. He was a mere man, not a sage. Hence he was not an exception at all. He did not know whom to trust, Ulupi or Chitra. He felt like a pawn in the hands of cruel fate.
He thought back. Why her father King Chitra Vahan pressed him to marry her so soon?!! He hardly knew her and never conveyed his love to her. Then why?!! Why she practically tried to coax him or beg him??!! Why she all of a sudden changed her attires?!! Why she was so adamant to keep him around her?!! To supress any doubt against her character, might be!! He thought derp. More he thought, more he became sanguine of her infedality. Where had she gone that wedding night?!! Why did not she tell him whom she met there??!! Why she took so long??!! What was she even doing there?!! Ughh!! He just could not want to think more.
He pressed his both ears too closed to send these thoughts away from him in vain. But it never happened. These evil thoughts were roaming in his mind and driving him crazy. The wife whom he adored so much just some time ago, whom he was afraid to let go for a second, suddenly turned his eyeshore. He hated to think about her.
Suddenly with a jolt he came back to senses. What he was going to do?!! He was giving Chitra the punishment for a crime for which she should have been given a time to defend herself. Even a criminal had a right to defend. And she was his wife. Newly wed bride. She should be given chance to defend herself. He, Kunti putro (son of mother Kunti) Madhyam (middle) Pandav (son of Pandu) should not abandon his wife on a silly rumour. He got up and decided what to do. He would go to Chitra and ask her all. She would definitely tell him everything.
But he did not know that the fate was playing against their union too along with Ulupi and Chandok.
....."He left me for her. Bring him back to me, Chandok." Ulupi ordered him.
Chandok smiled a small and assured her "Don't worry, dearest Rajkumari (princess). I will bring your husband back at you. I have a great plan."
"Don't use violence." She told him.
"No need. This plan of mine is pure non-violent but extremely sucessful."
He assured her again."What's this?!! Tell me." She asked him.
"Have patience. You will enjoy the show." He told her and with curt bow of head went to Manipur.
....Chandok gave sufficient of 'utkoch' or money to the guards of Chitra's own bedroom chamber. Not all of them were greedy but most. Those who took his money drugged others. In this way he paved his way clear. No, he did not want to do anything bad to Chitra. He was not interested in her at all. He was interested in Ulupi and the throne of Nag clan. Chitra was just a pawn for him to enter into Ulupi's good book. He waited there inside her private chamber closing his breath. He was waiting for the arrival of his rival Arjuna.
Suddenly someone's footsteps echoed on the dark stairs of the bedroom. He peeped from his hiding place. His own guess was right. Arjuna was entering with a flower bouquet on hands. He smiled a small in mind and peeped at the innocent face of lovely princess. She was smiling in dreams. A half-made picture of Arjuna stood on her bedside in a white canvas on a big wooden stand. Chandok was waiting more. He wanted Arjuna to look at him escaping from Chitra's private chamber.
The footsteps reached to the gateway of the main door. Someone was now pushing open the door. Chandok prepared himself. Princess could get up at any minute now. When the door opened more, he peeked back and ran towards the passageway behind the room. Arjuna heard the noise. He threw open the door and saw a tall man escaping from the room. He with great speed followed him. But evil Chandok was ready for that. He bolted towards the windowpane at the end of the passageway and jumped from it. His horse was ready beneath that window. He fell down on it and at once steadied himself. He stomped on the horse's stomach and galloped with it.
Arjuna followed him through the long passage and went to the window. But had to stop right there as he had no horse ready there to follow Chandok. He just saw a departing silhouette of a tall dark man on the horseback. He waved his hands on air in frustration as he could not stop that man. He all of a sudden sharply turned back to the wretched bedroom of Chitra in deeply burning eyes. Enough!! This woman was surely cheating him!!! He need no other proofs.
Alas, greatest archer Arjuna you made a gravest mistake just now for which history would never forgive you.
