"I misjudged myself. I should not sent my only son to that fatal mission."
Chitra was repenting since that day when Babrubahan took leave from her. She smiled brightly to him but in reality was scared stiff. What should she do?!! She was a mother. She had rights to be worried of only offspring. She had not been sleeping from then and sat in her temple in front of her deity. Her wounds in hands were all taken cared off by her friend Sujata, but her heart was bleeding constantly. Who would nurture it??!! She had to lost in this battle. Either as a mother or a wife. As Babru's mother, she did not want him to be defeated while as Arjuna's wife she could not bear him to be captivated. What had you done? Why should you do that?!! Alas, only if understood the mistake in time??!!
She was tossing and turning in her sleeps today. She never slept at the noon time. But for the remedy of her wounds the doctor's gave her strong sedatives under whose influences she was in a deep slumber. But she was dreaming. She was dreaming of a fierce fight between the father and his son. When an arrow was piercing any of their bodies, she felt wounded. She saw it all. The cuts and wounds, the shouts and cries, the blood and gore - she saw everything. Every single cry of pain from her son was choking her to death. She wanted to fly there to hold him tightly in her arms and to take the arrows on his behalf. She had to. As a mother it was her duty. Every arrow aiming to her husband's heart was piercing her in pieces. She was constantly screaming in her dream.
Her maid and friend Sujata left her alone just now. She thought that the princess was in heavy sleep. But that was half-true. She was sleeping alright but her minds were racing. She could see everything in her closed eyes. Each and every single detail of that war.
All of a sudden her eyes fluttered to open abruptly. A familiar voice rang on her ears. She had not heard this voice for ages but did not mistook to recognise it. The same deep and husky barritone voice.
"...CHITRA..." (along with a deep sigh)
Why he was remembering her??!! At this time??!! After ages??!! Did not he forgot her name??!! Did not he forgot her too??!! Did not she was brutally abandoned by him??!! Then why??!! Why??!!
She looked through the window. The Sun had set in the horizon. Only some sunrays were to be seen behind the trees and mountains. She sighed hard. She did not know this was the same time when her husband took his last breath.
...."Mother. Mother. Come with me now. Come with me at once."
Babrubahan entered the room where she was standing lifeless. She looked like she had realized that something was amiss. She felt as if she was still leaving but could not catch her breath a bit. Her eyes had found the same vacant look back.
"Mother" She broke from jolt when her son touched her arms.
That touch brought her back. She very slowly turned back at him. But what was she seen??!! His face was swallon and covered by bruises. His hair was drenched in blood. His one eye was hidden by the dripping blood from his head. Her heart stopped to beat. What had happened there?!!
"Babru, did you eat something? Are you hungry? Are you badly hurt?" A mother's questions were all the times unendind.
Babrubahan smiled brightly when she touched his head with love. "I have a surprise for you." He mentioned.
"What surprise?!!" Her voice sounded excited too.
"Not here, Mate (mother). At the battle ground. Come with me." He dragged her hands forcefully in excitement.
Suddenly Chitra realized her son was not the 3 yrs old anymore. She smiled and followed him. She was eager to see the surprise too.
..."Can you see the battle ground from here? Do you know how fierce the battle was? Do you realize what arms I had used there? Do you know that whom I had defeated, great Bheem, poewerful Karna son Brishaketu and your enemy Arjuna?"
Chitranagada was not listening to the nonstop blabbering of her son. His heart was racing. When did she reach the battle ground??!! When would she see him??!!
...Till their chariot reached the battle ground, Chitra was anxious. She did not know what she would see. She wanted to believe that everything was okay. Nothing bad had happened at all with them. But she was not so sure at this nick of the time. Her heart beat had already increased. She, as an warrior princess, had understood that everything was not right. If her son had been ever able to captivate her husband, then he would drag him to her instead of dragging her to him. But even after that she wanted to trust the faintest possibility that he was alright. Nothing bad had ever happened to him. Good heavens!! How could she did not realize before that she was still hopelessly in love with her husband??!! Ugghh!! What a mistake!!!
But her hopes were ruining before her very eyes. When the mother-son duo reached the wretched arena of the war ground, her heart felt heavy. Her legs got numb. Her knees got too weak to hold her petite body's weight. Her hands started trembling. Sweats started to form on her beautiful head. She felt that she had been wrong to hope for the impossible. The place was full of blood and torn pieces of weapons. The air was heavy to breath while the atmosphere was too dark. Every single sign indicated a fierce battle had took place in here not long before.
She adjusted her eyes to see some body like things. It was still not clear. They were still far away from it. But the body's position and its helpless state showed it perfectly that there was no sign of life in it. Suddenly she gasped in shock. Oh Lord!!! Was she seeing right?!! Was it a deadbody??!!
