All rushed to the battle field this time. Except only Brishaketu and his dear "Anuj" (young sibling) Babruhan. Lord Vasudeva did not want these boys to meet with Arjuna soon after he came back to his life. He wanted to give his friend a surprise. Arjuna would be so delighted to know that his dearest Brish was still living.
Ulupi and Chitrangada were present at the field beforehand. Ulupi was in tears. She was touching the lifeless body of Arjuna with her hands while cursing herself aloud in mind. What had I done??!! Why should I do that?!! She was thinking in mind. She did not believe her very eyes. She could not bear the distorted body of her beloved husband lying helplessly before her.
Chitra, on the other hand, was still standing at far. She was watching Ulupi's reactions in silence. She had the same vacant look in her eyes. But surprisingly her eyes were dried. She could not cry anymore. It seemed as if her tears were dried up. She had lost everything this day. She had decided something in mind. But did not want to convey it to others in the fear they would not permit her.
All of a sudden Yudhhisthir, Bheem and Lord Vasudeva entered the field holding mother Kunti. Ulupi touched her feet and she stopped her lips at once. By her nature, she was going to bless her with her usual blessings -
"Saubhagyavati vab (be married till end)."
She bit her lip and closed her eyes too tightly. Tears started to flow down. Her mind was scolding her. How could you think of that blessing at this crucial moment standing before your youngest son's deadbody??!! (Arjuna was his mothers youngest and last son as Nakul-Sahadev was Madri's twins.)
Ulupi, on the other hand, understood it wrongly. She thought that mother Kunti was not wanting to acknowldge her as her daughter-in-law. She bit her lower lip too to curse her luck once more.
Yudhhisthir came forward to his cousin Lord Vasudeva. He insisted -
"Vasudeva, can you grant my last wish?!!"
"What is your last wish, Bhratashree (brother)?" Lord Vasudeva asked him.
"If possible, bring back my dearest Anuj (young brother) and your dear friend and brother-in-law Arjuna back to his life too. I promise I will never ask anything in my entire life from you. I wanted to leave my state in his favor before but he stopped me. Now please bring him back once more so I can compete my pending job, Vasudeva." He answered in broken voice.
"But Hastinapur does not belong to Arjuna. It belongs to Avimanyu's son, Parikshit, Rajan. You know that well." Lord Krishna tried to understand his brother's logic.
"He Keshav (O Lord Krishna), I know that the state belongs to Parikshit. But before him, it belongs to his grand-father too. Arjuna is my right eye, my right arm, my life. I can't live a second without him at all. Please spare him." Yudhhisthir's voice was broken but his logic was good.
Bheem added "And he even did not got a chance to meet his own son till now? Don't you think, Vasudeva, he should be given the opportunity?!!"
Lord Vasudeva laughed aloud. "How can I refute your logic, Bhrata Bheem (brother Bheem)? You are not only a powerful warrior but also a good logician too."
Hence he leaned on Arjuna's body and positioned his chopped head on his neck rightly. Then he put the gem named Nag Moni on his heart. Within a second the gem started to glow so brightly that blinded everybody's eyes. It started to sparkle like a blue diamond with a ray of red inside. This red ray emerged from it and inserted into Arjuna's heart.
Everyone was holding their breath to see the result. For some minutes no reaction could be seen. The body did not started to move like Brishaketu's. Ulupi got frustrated and waved her both hands in despair. Kunti closed her eyes with her both palms. While Chitra stood lifeless looking at her husband. She knew it would definitely work on him.
Her belief started to work at last. In an instant Arjuna's chopped head got sealed with his neck and not even a scar was seen there. His fingers slowly moved and he opened his eyes.
But before he opened his eyes, some person standing far from him slowly backed away from the battle field. She had done it so slowly and silently that none except only one man could have noticed her absence. Lord Vasudeva smiled in mind. He understood it too perfectly what was going in her brain.
Arjuna opened his eyes slowly. His brows were brewed together for some time in sheer disbelief. He could not trust his very eyes. He could not be able to believe that he was still alive. His eyes roamed on everyone's tired yet anxious faces surrounding him. Mother Kunti was smiling brightly with tearful eyes. Ulupi had yelled in happiness. Yudhhisthir and Bheem were hugging each other to celebrate Arjuna's new life.
He did not understand what is going on. Why all of them were rejoicing?!! Why they look so happy??!! Why his brother Yudhhisthir, mother Kunti and wife Ulupi were here??!! Why?!! He put his hands on his neck and was taken aback to see it intact and totally secured on his shoulder. But was not he dead??!! Was not his head fall on the ground?!! Did not he died when he accepted mother Ganga's curse?!!
All of a sudden he remembered some very important thing. He stretched his hands to Lord Vasudeva and asked eagerly -
"Keshav (Lord Vasudeva), where is Brishaketu? How is he? Tell me."
Lord Vasudeva smiled to see this kind of eagerness in his friend. He did not ask about himself. All he cared about the wellbeing of his nephew. This soft heart of Arjuna made Vasudeva his life-long friend cum admirer.
He held his friend's fist tightly in his own and smiled brightly again to tell him -
"Don't worry, Partha (Arjuna). He is saved. We have saved him too."
Arjuna's voice choked in tears. He did not trust his ears. Brother Karna's son was saved. Oh God!!!
He closed his eyes tightly to suppress his tears and very slowly murmured "Dhanyovad (thank you) Keshav. Thank you so so much. You saved my honor."
