Finn Hudson had actually lost his fucking mind. The quarterback claimed to have seen the face of God on a sandwich, and then he decided to announce his newfound faith to the Glee Club, saying that they should honor their lord and savior as that week's lesson.
Jayden wasn't having it.
It wasn't that she was against praying – she recited Jewish blessings with her family every morning – but she didn't want religion to interfere with her day-to-day at school. She was all for honoring God on her own time. Not in a public school.
But the worst part was that the Glee Club wasn't respecting Kurt's beliefs. The boy was already having to deal with his father being in the hospital due to a heart attack, and instead of respecting his wishes, they were basically trying to force religion onto him.
It wasn't much of a surprise that Kurt had walked out of that afternoon's practice. Jayden didn't blame him. She would too if she was in his position. Everyone should be free to express their views on religion, even if that person didn't believe in God.
"Hey."
"What do you want?" Kurt asked, eying the younger girl suspiciously as she sat down in front of him.
"I'm sorry about how they're all acting," Jayden said with a sympathetic smile. "And I'm sorry about your dad. Is he doing any better?"
"He's in a coma, but at least he's alive," Kurt mumbled. "For now."
"Don't think like that. He's gonna be okay."
"How do you know that?" the older boy scoffed. "And don't give me any of that, 'God came to me in a dream and told me himself' crap."
"I'm not gonna say anything like that," Jayden shook her head. "I don't agree with this week's lesson, and it's not fair that the others are trying to push this onto you."
"What do you mean you don't agree with the lesson?" Kurt asked.
"Well, I'm Jewish, so Finn trying to force Christianity onto everyone because he apparently saw Jesus on a sandwich is triggering me," Jayden said with a slight roll of her eyes. "I think the way everyone reacted to you saying you don't believe in God was childish."
"Really?"
"Really," Jayden nodded. "I think their intentions are good, but you can't be forced to believe in something you don't."
"Well, I'm glad someone understands," Kurt sighed. "So, you didn't come here to preach Judisim to me?"
"No, of course not," Jayden said with a small chuckle. "I just wanted to check on you. Make sure you were okay."
"I'm hanging in there, I guess," the brunette boy shrugged. "It's hard to really focus on anything else right now knowing he could die at any minute."
"He's not gonna die. This is just one of the many challenges that people have to go through in life. He's gonna wake up and be stronger."
Kurt hummed in response and returned to the book he was reading.
"Okay, look," Jayden sighed as Kurt looked up again. "Rachel told me not to tell you, but she, Quinn, and Mercedes are going to the hospital later to pray for your dad."
"They're what?"
"Just...Just please don't freak out, okay? They're just trying to help," Jayden said, standing up when the older boy did too.
"I didn't ask them to do that," Kurt said, as he packed his things away in his bag, slinging it over his shoulder. "Why can't they just respect my wishes?"
