Being 19 was the most free Jadelynn Skylar July's felt in her entire life.

She was learning to stand up for herself and speak her mind about what she wanted – and what she wanted was for her son to remain the happy kid he is, for her and her girlfriends to grow old together, and her birth name.

Gone was 'Berry', which tormented her for years knowing that she'd never live up to Rachel's perfection. Lost forever was 'Bernadette', who had caused Jadelynn more pain in her youth than her fathers neglect.

She felt as if she had been reborn. She was a phoenix rising from the ashes with a brand-new cloak of bright red feathers. Her past was the last thing on her mind – that is, until she got...the call.

Rachel and Kurt were starting up the Glee Club again, so they asked the alumni to come back and help them.

It was weird walking through those double doors again. She thought she'd left the place for good when she graduated two years ago. Everywhere she looked, she was surrounded by memories; the good, the bad, and the in between.

She was greeted with hugs the minute she stepped foot into the choir room, which was unexpected. She'd never really been close with anyone in Glee Club except for Rachel, Quinn, Santana, and Brittany, but she'd be lying if she said that she didn't miss some of them.

"Touch my baby and you burn, Puckerman," Santana threatened as she pulled Jade away from Puck when he tried to approach her. They sat down in the back, and Brittany pulled Oliver to sit in her lap.

"It's so great to have you all together in this room again," Rachel said from where she stood at the front of the choir room with Kurt. "It means so much you would come at the drop of a hat."

"Wanky," Santana whispered in Jade's ear. The dancer stifled a laugh and covered her mouth with her hand to hide her smile.

"Artie, are you drawing me?" Quinn frowned.

"Nope, just your boobs," Artie replied. He turned to face the blonde, who narrowed her eyes at him. "It's for my storyboarding class."

"Gwoss," Oliver mumbled, his nose scrunching.

"Okay, we need to focus." Rachel clapped her hands together in slight irritation.

"Guys, we really gotta focus here, okay? We're in crisis mode," Kurt said. "Glee Club has done so much for all of us. You know, it brought us together. It gave us hope. It put us out in the world."

"And it brought some of us home again," Rachel added.

"She's talking about me," Sam said.

"Here's the situation. We need you guys back," Rachel declared. "Not all the time. We realize you have lives in other places."

"We've got to get glee club back on its feet," Kurt said. "Especially since now some of us are the competition."

"He's talking about Schue and Blaine."

"Shut up, Sam," Iris grumbled, shaking her head.

"We need you back," Rachel repeated. "Not all the time, but if you're not here, then the tradition of the club we love so much will be gone. We'll find kids that can bring something to it the same way that we did, and we will mentor them based on our strengths."

"Shouldn't we mentor them based on their strengths?" Jade asked, raising a brow.

"We really gotta get out there and take on the school," Kurt said. "Really rattle Sue's cage."

"And how are we supposed to do that?" Leilani asked.

"We are going to give McKinley a little taste of what they've been missing."
