A/N - pretend Remus was bitten much younger

I was in an awkward position. James, my friend, and secret true love, was playing against Regulus who was officially my boyfriend. Remus and Sirius had been taunting me all day about whether I'd be wearing green or red.

"I could just wear yellow, after all I'm not in either house," I grumbled.

"Don't worry y/n," James said, putting an arm around my shoulder and I couldn't help but blush.

"I'm just happy you're coming, you haven't been around," he said and nuzzled his head into my shoulder. He was soft like this with everyone, but it never stopped the butterflies that erupted in my stomach when he did these things.

"You knooooow," Sirius said with an evil smile.

"You and Prongs look cute together, maybe you should date him instead of my brother," Sirius drawled.

"Yes, y/n, I would so much rather you date James than Regulus," Remus said imploringly.

"I don't think Jamie would want to date me," I said quietly. The silence was awkward so I got up and went over to the Slytherin table.

"Hey Reggie," I said. I felt sheepish for one of the first times around Regulus.

"Oh," he smiled at me brightly. "Morning little snake."

"Oh barf, really Regulus?" Barty Crouch gagged.

"You're just sad you haven't got such a sexy girlfriend," Regulus said and stood up. I didn't know what he was going to do. To my shock, he dipped me and kissed me generously. It was such a sweet gesture that it surprised me.

"Thanks Regulus," I said with heated cheeks.

"Why do you call her little snake?" Lucius asked as Regulus sat back down and pulled me into his lap. I felt so oddly giddy with the situation. I felt submissive in a good way as I sat in his lap, like his princess, showing me off in front of all his friends. His one arm was protectively around my waist and I melted back into him.

"Haha," Regulus was smirking, clearly smug.

"Don't-" I tried but Regulus had already pulled down the neck of his robes. I put my head in my hands as he showed off his numerous purple bite marks.

"Damn," Lucius swore. "Bloody hell y/n, are you a cannibal?"

"She said I make her feel too good she can't help it," Regulus said, voice deep with pride. I struggled out of his arms.

"I told you not to, I'm not just some show doll," I snapped, feeling humiliated. I'd felt important when he'd put me on his lap, but showing the bite marks that I purposefully put low so people couldn't see them; that felt like a breech of trust.

"Come on, don't be embarrassed," Regulus said, trying to keep his smug demeanor, but he looked worried.

"No, I told you don't, you need to respect me Regulus Black," I shouted. I stomped away, tears welling in my eyes with embarrassment. People were staring. I felt like an idiot for being so hurt by such a dumb thing. I'd specifically asked him to only call me little snake in private. It made me feel like a traitor for how wild I got for him when I was meant to be in love with James.

I decided I wouldn't wear any colors that related to the houses. I wore one of my brothers over sized sweaters. I still remembered when he'd given it to me. We'd just met and I was sobbing over my father. I was in short sleeves because I hadn't anticipated the weather. It was dreary and wet and freezing in England. Remus had taken one look at me shivering, crying, and miserable and pulled off his brown sweater and offered it to me. He was left in just an undershirt. It had meant more to me than I could say and I hugged my brother for the first time. He'd stayed just as kind, perhaps I should end things with Regulus for his sake. Maybe I should just ask James out and take the loss if it didn't work out. It was clear Remus didn't like us together.

I thought about all this as I made my way to the Quidditch stands. Remus and Sirius were both in gleaming golds and bright scarlets.

"Ah, Switzerland," Sirius said when he saw my lack of colors.

"I'm neutral," I agreed.

"Well honestly, I would have been a bit hurt if you'd been in all green and silver," Remus said anxiously.

"Hey," I said and gave him a hug. "The Marauders are still my number ones. I still love you guys and all you've done for me. You could've just shunned me as a half sister from an affair but you brought me into your circle and made sure I was okay."

"Well, I've always wanted a sibling," Remus smiled. "I just feel awful about why you were born."

"Hey, Hope did the bad thing, not you," I said, comforting him. I never called Hope, mom. I didn't like her much. Lyall was kind and forgiving and always trying to figure out a cure for Remus. I didn't respect Hope, who had used the stress of Remus's condition as an excuse to go out and cheat. I didn't feel guilty about not liking her, she didn't really like me either. I made her feel guilty. But also, I disliked her because no matter how many times I asked, she refused to take me to visit my father. She said it would only make me sad. I didn't care how sad it made me. I knew there was no one else going there to see him.

"Thanks," he said softly. Sirius kissed his cheek and took his hand. I was glad he had a special someone.

The game began and Regulus, to my surprise, was continuously looking at me. He looked concerned. I didn't care, he could have at least apologized but he'd let me look like I was crazy.

Regulus was clearly distracted. I'd seen him play before and this was bad. His moves were slow and clunky as opposed to his usual quick grace.

It wasn't even a challenge. James was on his game. He easily caught the snitch when Regulus was on the other side of the pitch. James hadn't even had to fight for it. Gryffindor had won. I decided I'd run down fast to congratulate James with a hug.

I moved fast, taking the stairs two at a time. I made it onto the field and shouted James's name. He turned, dark eyes sparkling. He was smiling, welcoming me forward when something crashed into me. I was plowed into the ground. It hurt to breathe, even though the breath was knocked out of me.

I took gasping breaths and heard someone about my name. I was dizzy, the clouds spinning above me.

"Baby," said a voice and Regulus was over me. I couldn't speak. I gagged and turned my head to the side as I puked.

"Oh, no, y/n, you poor thing," he said, pushing hair away from my face.

"Bloody hell, are the Slytherin beaters so shit you can't keep the crowd from getting hit by a damn bludger?" Regulus roared at his teammates.

"She came on the field too soon after the game ended, no one had time to lock up the balls."

"Idiots," he spat.

"Can I pick you up and take you to the hospital wing?" He asked me. I nodded shakily.

"Get off her!" I heard my brother call.

"Yeah, she was coming to see me," James shouted.

"She's MY bloody girlfriend!" Regulus snarled back.

"I'm so sorry you got hit darling," he said as he carried me into the school. He looked genuinely worried.

"Reg," I said in a gravelly voice. "Thank you."

"You're welcome y/n, and I'm sorry for being an ass at breakfast. You have asked me not to show off those bites and I betrayed you."

"S'okay," I mumbled.

"No, it's not, I think I'll spoil you with get better soon gifts," he winked at me. "Also, that'll make James see how close we are."

He dropped me off at the Hospital Wing and tried to stay but Madam Pomfrey said she'd need to give me a sponge bath and he needed to leave. He told me he'd be back later. He pressed a kiss to my temple before he left.
