Kristina and Javier got dressed and left the house ten minutes later as they got in the care and headed for the hospital that Levi was in. By the time they go there it was 10:46am, they got visitor’s passes and headed to the 4th floor ICU. As they walk down the hallway they see Terah standing out the room door.
“What took you so long to come?” she says in a hoarse voice.
“My fault, we slept in.” he says softly, “How you doing cuz’?” Javier asks her.
“I don’t know,” she says quietly as she pauses, “I haven’t slept in days…” she looks up at him and quickly puts her hands on his face, “Oh My God, what happened to your face, primo …” before he gets to respond her eyes fall on Kristina, “You,” she says with anger as she glares at her, “Why haven’t you answered any of my calls?” She shouts at her angrily.
“I-I-I thought that was your brother trying to call me.” Kristina says quietly in shock at Terah’s attitude.
“And what If he was trying to call you? You couldn’t think to pick up the phone to hear what he had to say?” she shouts.
“I-“
“Terah chill.” Javier says.
“For two months straight he’s been calling and texting you and you couldn’t even pick up the phone. Not one fucking time?” she shouts louder
“I-“
"You know you're the only person he would want to talk to. And without you he turned to alcohol." she snaps at her.
"Terah I-"
“What kind of fucking best friend are you?” she spat at her.
“Terah stop,” Javier shouts at her, “This isn’t a fucking blame game, what happened, happened and we can’t change that. You’re tired and upset, and so are we. It’s way too early for this shit.” he says as his grey eyes pierce her for a moment then he pulls her into a hug as she starts to sob loudly into his chest, “It’s okay, Everything is going to be okay.” he repeated to her calmly as he rubs her back.
Kristina just stood there frozen with tears welling in her eyes from the words that Terah said to her that threw daggers at her heart, How can she say that? After the all the things I did for him I’ve been nothing but a damn good friend. She doesn’t know what he did to me. I had every right to NOT answer for two months, Kristina looks at Terah’s red face, who’s sobbing even louder, breaking down completely in Javier’s arms which causes the tears to fall from Kristina eyes, … But she’s right, I’ve should’ve picked up at least once.
After couple of minutes, Terah calms down, “Let’s go for a walk, you need some fresh air.” Javier says to her as he looks up to Kristina, “You good?” he watches Kristina nod her head ‘Yes’, “We’ll be back okay.” he says as he walks down the hall with Terah on his arm.
Kristina stands in the hallway for a moment debating whether or not she should go in the room to see Levi. After almost five minutes of thinking, she forces herself to go inside. She turns the door handle and her heart drops, she can almost feel it touching the floor as she sees her once vibrant full of life best friend, pale and connected to multiple tubes. She’s paralyzed at the sight of him all she could do is stare at him in the midst of the beeping machines. After a moment she suddenly feels herself involuntarily walking towards him and ends up at the side of his bed. She pulls up a chair right next to the bed and sits down, then slowly reaches to hold his hand and feels a coldness that replaced his once warm hands. “Levi?” she calls to him as if her words could suddenly wake him up, but she gets no response. “Levi, Levi wake up!” she shouts at his motionless body. Looking at his pale face she begins starts to cry, “I’m so sorry.” she whispers to his unresponsive body as she drops her head down to his hand as she sobs on his hand. Moments pass and Kristina drifts off into blackness for a few minutes.
