"Who was that?" Nikolai asked, hand on his hip. "A Fatui member, they had a question to ask me," Albedo responded but Nikolai could see right through his lie. "You seemed pretty mad at him tho." Nikolai raised an eyebrow.

"Because they came in announced, they could've knocked or talked to me beforehand," Albedo said. Nikolai knew that bugging him about it more would do no good, plus, it's not like he needed to know any of that. All he needed was the Fatui's money.

Vera hasn't texted me in a while. I wonder if she's okay.
Nikolai thought about checking up on her but there was suddenly a ding from his phone.

He quickly took it out and saw Vera's text.

[Vera] I need to talk to you. I found something.

[Nikolai] Just tell me now.

[Vera] No, I need to tell you in person.

[Nikolai] Fuck...okay. Where are you?

[Vera] Outside of the headquarters, be quick I don't wanna get caught.

"I'm sorry Albedo but I've got to go. I wish I could've spent more time with you." Nikolai flashed a smile at Albedo. Albedo was sort of relieved when he heard that. "That's fine. You can always visit whenever you like. I'd give you a key to my office, or to the Fatui's entry but I am not allowed to do that." Albedo smiled.

What does he mean by that? Isn't he the boss? Perhaps there's someone higher than him in this organization that I don't know of. Or it's just some rule he cannot disobey.
Nikolai headed to the door and waved goodbye before leaving.

When the door shut, Albedo's face went dull. "Ugh..." he wouldn't say he didn't like Nikolai, he just didn't fully trust him. He did at first but now, he was just a little suspicious.

Once he reached the outside, someone pull him off to the side of the building. Nikolai was prepared for that though so he didn't fret.

Vera's hands were on Nikolai's shoulders, her hair was messy and her eyes were crazy looking. "What's wrong with you?" Nikolai reached in his pocket to grab a cigarette pack but Vera grabbed his hand and squeezed it tightly as she spoke in almost a whisper, "They don't have any money..."

Shock sparked in his entire body, he gasped and then clenched his jaw with his eyes widened as he had just seen a ghost. Nikolai shook his head in disbelief, "No, no...that can't be true—it's the Fatui!"

"I checked that banker's office, it turns out they ran out of money fairly recently. We did this for nothing, nothing at all." She stabbed those words into him. "That...—" Nikolai's eyes narrowed and he put his hand into tight fists, breaking out of the grasp from Vera. "—Bastard." He teethed.

Vera grabbed at her hair, mind going crazy. "We aren't gonna get anything! Even if we do manage to take control of the Fatui. What do we do? What do we do Nikolai?"

"We are going to take over the Fatui. Money or not, they have power. Once we take control, we can figure out the whole money situation. Easy, right?" Nikolai slid his hand into his pocket and slid out a box of cigarettes and a lighter, smirk plastered on his face.

"Easy?! That sounds anything but easy. What even is your plan to take over the Fatui?" Vera asked.

"Ambush their headquarters with our own people, of course. They may have more weapons than us, but they are short on people. Going through the Fatui, I realized a lot of vacant offices and rooms. Seems like they aren't recruiting as many people as they used to." Nikolai put the cigarette to his lips and lit the end, looking up to the sky to blow the smoke out.

"Our people?" Vera turned to him. "Yes. There are plenty of people that hate the Fatui in L.A. It won't be that hard to find people." Nikolai said. Vera looked to the side and then nodded to agree with the idea.

"I have a few places to look for them."
