Chapter Eighteen: Protecting You

Dacey's POV:

I was walking down the street on my own. I wanted to be alone. If having dinner with Oswald and his mother wasn't stressful enough then how about getting a call from Gotham Police Station saying they want to know where I was for the last two weeks and the murders. And how about losing your job because that it the only way that you can ensure your safety and not being told why it is in order to protect you.

How about eating with your mother and get her glancing at her phone every ten minutes? Or the game where nobody wins and Gotham's war is on the break of happening and what about your mother shortly running out of town because she wanted to leave Gotham for no reason what's so ever? This was my life and all that was happening was the haunting memory of my Brenden dying over and over again in my mind. Popping up and not leaving me.

There was no way in hell that I was safe and I didn't know why but I had a feeling that someone was after me. Someone who was in relation to Brendan's murder.

I was walking back to my apartment that me and Brendan shared. I was walking home from college. Well, University. I was getting all of my grades that I needed. I was happy and I moved from Gotham one year ago to retain a good life for me and my mother. I looked around and smiled.

Happiness was with me. I was engaged to one of the wealthiest businessmen in the whole of America. Brendan Hollister held all of the greatest ports and weaponry you could get. And I was to be his future wife. I was pleased and great full as the life I lead before was in ruins.

As I was wondering the streets I heard my phone start to vibrate. I smiled as I took it out of my pocket and swung my bag to the left answering my phone.

"Hello?" I answered the phone. I had always kept my phone turned on in case of an emergency and this before I knew it would be the end of my degree in Uni for becoming a business woman and my hopes for a happy future were gone.

"Dacey!" It was Brendan. He seemed panicky. I ignored the tone in his voice and then asked.

" Brendan  baby, I was thinking for the wedding?-"  I totally ignored him and went to talk about our future together.

"Dace, please. I need your help now!" I stopped walking and swinging my bag in joy. I stopped. Thunder clouds started to form in the sky and thunder was rumbling.

"Brendan, what's wrong?" I asked frantically. I was starting to get worried. I  was shaking slightly and my breath was uneven.

"Listen, Dace, they're coming for you for me and I need you to-" He started breathing in and out furiously. I then stopped again and listened in.

"What do you mean? Who's coming for us? Brendan, please tell me what's going on." I demanded to know. I was being frantic and Brendan didn't need this right now. I could tell that there was worry in his own tone. He was scared and so was I. But why?

"Baby please, they are coming because of the company. Once they have me then they will be coming for you." He warned me. I then felt a tear fall down my eye. This couldn't be happening this couldn't be happening.

"Brendan, what do I do? Brendan where are you? Please, maybe I can help..." I was scared out of my skin. Brendan then was about to say something when I heard slamming in the background. Lightning struck in the distance. I looked around at the public walking around and then I shouted.
