Chapter Forty- One: Cobblepot's a girl's best friend
Dacey POV:
"King of Gotham's Men found dead!... Well, that's a headline alright," Jerome chuckles as he tosses the newspaper to the table. I smirk as I stare at the headline as all of the words float around in midair.
"Why are you smirking Strike?" I turn and see Cole raising his eyebrow at me. I chuckle myself and shake my head smugly. I fold my arms and place my boots on the metal table and smile.
"Nothing Jenson, I'm just in a good mood, can't a girl be in a good mood?" I ask him smiling. He sighs and shakes his head waving my happiness off.
"When you're happy I'm concerned," he mutters and Barbara stares at me and shakes her head and then looks at the newspaper herself.
" It looks like Cobblepot got what he deserved, hey Dace?" I nod my head and look down at the small ring on my left hand and stare at it. I still haven't taken it off ever since Oswald gave it to me but now that everything is different, the next time I see him, he's getting it back.
"Well, I wouldn't quite say that," I say and close my eyes, I feel a pair staring at me but I ignore them and continue to have my sweet bliss to myself for as long as possible.
"We need a plan to escape, Arkham is just getting boring," Jerome states. I nod agreeing with him. He has a point, it is pretty boring in here just sitting and talking doing nothing.
"I need to be causing chaos," he continues. I open my eyes and notice his green eyes on me. I turn to see Greenwood snort and chuckle.
"Chaos? You couldn't even hurt a bunny if you wanted to Jerome, so stop speaking out of your ass," I snort myself and laugh. It goes silent in the whole recreation room and everyone now stares at either me or a seriously angered Jerome.
"You shouldn't underestimate a person based on their looks Greenwood, I mean just because he looks like he couldn't hurt a fly means shit," I point out. Greenwood rolls his eyes and shakes his head.
"Shut it Strikes! You're only in here because you went mad last year and that Dr. Sole admitted you in here because it was the safest place," as soon as Greenwood says this, I put my feet down and jump across the table and launch myself at Greenwood, grasping his throat in both of my hands sending us to the floor with me on top of him.
"Do. Not. Call. Me. Crazy." I growl at him, he looks up and into my eyes with fear and I feel him physically gulp under my hold.
"Didn't your mommy ever tell you not to judge a book by its character or never to listen to rumors, Greenwood?" Jerome cackles. I continue to close my fingers on his throat and stop when I notice my hair visibly light up and start to glow. I let go of Greenwood in fright and as soon as I do, I stop myself and stand up and face everyone. Everyone in the room once again is looking at me and Cole, Jerome, and Barbara visibly stare at my hair and then look into my eyes.
"What happened?" I mutter to myself.
"Your eyes were a more radiant violet than before and your hair started to glow brighter," Cole says to me. I nod my head slowly and walk away from the table and out of the room and go to my cell.
*****
Once I am back in my cell, I look in the mirror over my sink and look at my reflection, my hair isn't as bright anymore and my eyes have gone back to the violet colour they changed a year ago.
It shows your sanity...
Great, they are back again. I think to myself. Throughout the past year, the voices in my head have been speaking to me and haven't left me alone.
