Chapter Forty-Eight: Fear behind the Scarecrow

Phoenix's POV:

I walk through the hospital with my hair in a light blonde wig and bright blue contacts in my eyes. I have black framed glasses on my face and I am wearing a black pencil skirt, black heels, and a white blouse, as well as, a white doctor's coat. I have bright crimson red lipstick on my face and the wig I am wearing is in a tight bun with loose curls falling each side of my face. I smirk walking proudly down the corridor. I am only in the general hospital because Galavan wants me to find some sleeping drug or whatever the hell it is.  

I wonder past many rooms to try and find the storage cupboard where they will keep all of their medicine. I sigh as I try to navigate my way through the maze-like hospital. I continue to look for the cupboard or at least the storeroom until I come across something which catches my eye.

Private: Do not enter under circumstances unless you have the authority to enter. 

*Warning* Unstable patient inside the room, do not disturb unless under strict orders!

I smile as I read the sign and quickly look left and right to see if anyone is looking and pull out a small card pass from my pocket from the nurse I stole it from earlier. 

Let's have a little fun to see what all of the fuss is about, shall we? I ask myself and smirk as I swipe the card against the scanner. I smirk when the name Esther Banks appears on the screen and the door scanner flashes green unlocking the door from the outside. I place my hand gently on the handle and slowly pull it down before entering the room. 

I am met by a bright light hitting my eyes and the beeping of a heart monitor machine. I close the door behind me gently and hear it click once more. I look around and see four white plain walls and a hospital bed against the back wall of the room. I see tons of tablets, and other drugs and smile to myself. 

Who needs the storeroom when what I need may be in here? I question in my head and smirk. I turn my head towards the beeping sound and walk over towards where a young guy around my age is laid unconscious with wrist straps and other straps tying him down to the bed. I tilt my head to the side and walk over to him. He has dark brown hair and looks to be skinny but lean. I stand over him looking over at the machine beside him, everything seems to be normal yet he is still unconscious and is bound to the bed. I look over at the boy again and scan across his face, there is something vaguely familiar about him, but what? 

I shrug my shoulders and walk over towards the cabinet of medicines and drugs. But before I reach it, I somehow manage to trip on a chord and fall into the machine that the person is attached to. The beeping still continues but I'm sure I fell into a button or something. I look over at the guy in the bed and dismiss my previous actions and continue towards the cabinet. I take some keys out of my pocket which I also stole from the doctor and unlock the medicine cabinet and look through all of the bottles and concoctions. 

In case you are wondering, yes tonight is the big night for the Maniacs or what's left of them, and yes, I probably should be getting ready alongside Jerome but things change don't they. Jerome decided that today would be the day he would kill his father under Galavan's instructions to set up Jerome's father for the Arkham break out. Jerome would frame his own father with plans of Asylum and plant a can of that knockout gas that Tabitha originally used on all of us. Now instead of me going with him like I wanted to and watch Jerome kill his scum of a father, Galavan told Tabitha to go and look after Jerome whilst I got stuck with finding some drug for whatever Galavan needed it for. 

He just told me to find a drug suitable enough for someone to be able to inject into another person to knock them out. Now, I don't know why Galavan doesn't use his own knockout gas, or maybe even chloroform but he wants some drug that can only be found in the hospital. Personally, I think he is only trying to get rid of me and get me out of the way. He's lately been very cautious about me being around Jerome and Barabara seems sympathetic whenever she looks at me whilst me and Jerome are together, it's almost like she knows something that I don't.
