Chapter Twenty Seven: Have I seen you before?
Dacey's POV:
I take a deep breath and look at the door. My eyes bore into the wood. I sigh and contemplate about knocking. What if I do? What will happen then? Would I get a lecture? Or will I get sympathy? Or maybe both? I then raise my hand to the door.
"Are you going to knock?" I hear someone say. I turn on my heel and then see a man in a black suit. He has dark black hair and brown eyes. He although has a mask covering his eyes. I don't know exactly what to say to this guy.
"I'm thinking about it," I tell him and he nods his head chuckling. I then continue to stare at the door.
"You do know how to knock?... Right?" He asks me. I look back over to him and then nod my head. I give the man a sarcastic smile.
"And you know that concealing your identity from an Officer of the Law gives you jail time?" I ask him back seriously. I then continue to stare at the door. I couldn't knock. I just couldn't.
"If you won't, I will then." He announces and then knocks on the door.
"Are you insane?" I ask him as the door swings open. There standing in front of us is Mrs. Cobblepot. I smile and so does the man behind me.
"Dacey? Christian?" She asks. I then look over at the guy. That was his name?
"Ah yes Mrs. Cobblepot, I am here for the weekly check on you." He says and she nods her head appreciating his words. Then she looks at me and I say under my breath.
"I need to talk," I announce. She nods her head and ushers us into the house. I walk into the house and take a seat in the main living area. My head is all around as my eyes are scanning her home once more. This was the third time that I had been in this home and I was already getting used to it.
"It is so good to see you Dacey, and of course you as well Christian." Mrs. Cobblepot announces and then she walks into the kitchen that is just off of the living area. I sigh and close my eyes.
"So do you come here for casual visits?" I hear Christian ask. I open my eyes and look back at him. I raise my eyebrow at him.
"I'm just curious, that's all. No need to get suspicious. It's just that I haven't seen you around this house before." He tells me. I nod my head and then look at him again. I swear I have seen this man before. I stop looking at him and gaze off into the distance.
"I first came here when I was investigating her son's murder. My second time here I was invited for dinner and I just need to talk to her right now." I tell him. He seems to be interested in what I had to say. He actually seemed to care. I didn't even know this man but he was listening. Not that I am surprised of course... Ok, I am.
"What about you?" I ask him. He then looks at me and smiles.
"Who's curious now? I come here ever week to talk to her. I am paid to do so." I hear him tell me. I nod my hair and my curiosity gets the better of me.
"What's with the mask?" I ask him finally. He then smirks and reaches and lightly touches the black mask covering his eyes.
"It conceals my identity." He informs me. I then nod my head and laugh.
"Isn't that what a mask is meant to do though? Conceal one's identity? What are you? Some superhero?" I ask him the multiple questions. He chuckles himself this time and then subconsciously licks his lips.
"There is no such thing as heroes. Not in my opinion. What about you? Do you believe in them?" He inquires. I the sigh again. I inhale and then look out of the window.
