Chapter Three: Not who I thought you were

Dacey's POV:

It has been a month since I had first arrived back in Gotham and a lot had developed in my life.

I and Oswald had come considerably close despite the clear annoyance of my mother not taking a liking to my new found friend. You could say that now I and he were inseparable to a degree, he always looked out for me and I did for him.

Oswald had proven in the month we had spent together that he was just another innocent affected by the city and the cruelty of the rich. He was a loveable person and whenever I would spend time with him, he always made me smile. He was normal despite working for my mother and that was something I admired about him. In this city, he seemed to be the only one who I had met that wasn't bloodthirsty with power. He was someone I could see myself slowly getting even closer to in the future.

He was the opposite of me.

An innocent.

And it was a nice break to be with someone like that.

I've also managed to acquire myself a job at the GCPD "Gotham City Police Department" and am now one of their leading Detectives after Commissioner Essen took a look at my qualifications and sent me through a bunch of tests to see if I would be suitable for the job.

So now I am, Detective or Agent if you prefer, Dacey Strike of the GCPD. It was good to finally find a place in this city where I knew I would be of use. After all, the GCPD doesn't need to know that their new Agent in a murderer.

My two new partners, Detective Harvey Bullock and James "Jim" Gordon were decent people as well. I could tell from the moment I first met Jim, I knew that he was someone who wanted to fix this city. He clearly showed promise which despite my hatred for this chaotic place, I welcomed the change. Harvey, however, was what I would assume to be a beer-drinking cop. He has lived in this city all of his life just like me and because of that, he lived by Gotham's rules. He knew of the gang violence and knew better than to get involved. This is where he, Jim and I differed tremendously. That and the fact that I knew Harvey due to his involvement with my mother, I had known him for years.

Then I remember that I am only doing this due to my original plan of being back in Gotham, being a Detective and having access to the police files would definitely come in handy and I would be able to manipulate myself into the system perfectly.

I walk out of the door of my mother's club and decide to take a walk. I might as well since I want to clear my head, it's been one hectic week. I witnessed Jim murder a man named Mario Pepper due to his "involvement" in Wayne's murders.

Oh and there's also that. Bruce Wayne a young boy of eleven had lost his parents due to them being murdered in an alley by a masked man. Bruce watched both of his parents die and I remember how Jim had explained it to me it sounded terrible and I felt sorry for the boy. I'd visit him but I knew that wasn't a wise idea given... well, you might find that out later.

Now, back to my walk. I continue to walk down the streets of Gotham minding my own business.

That is until I hear someone screaming.

I run around the corner into a dark and damp alleyway and as I run I hear the screaming intensity.

I finally stop when I see some figures holding a man by his arms and feet beating him to death.

"Take it easy, Penguin!" a voice warns.

"You know I don't like to be called that," another voice calls back with anger lacing his tone.
