Chapter Fifty- Four: Well, here we are
Oswald's POV:
I scan my eyes over the various documents in front of me all addressed to the mayor. A lot has happened in the past ten months after Dacey's death.
Dr. Hugo Strange who was apart of Indian Hill run by Wayne Enterprises was bringing people back from the dead and creating monsters out of them. Then the monsters terrorized the city and I found out that something impossible had happened that changed who I am... but more about that later.
I wanted to get rid of the monsters from the city so, with the help of some of my men, I drove them out of the city and challenged Mayor James for candidacy for Mayor and I won by a landslide. The people favor me, Oswald Cobblepot, King of the Underworld and Mayor of Gotham. I had won in the end but at a price of letting someone in my past leave Gotham along with the other monsters.
I am sat in my black leather chair now, scanning many different letters bored out of my mind. I wanted to become Mayor so that I would have power over the city but it seems that power also comes with heaps of paperwork. Sighing, I run my hands through my short hair and sigh looking down at my oak desk. Two photo frames stand proudly on my desk facing me.
One frame is a picture of the woman who died ten months ago in my arms. The woman who I watched take her last breath and the woman who forgave me for everything I did. And the woman I was going to start a new life with. But that all ended when she was murdered in front of me and I could not do anything about it.
Dacey Strike was in that frame. Smiling and looking directly into the camera. Her hair was still brown at the time the picture was taken. It was during one of the evenings before Fish's death when I decided to take her out for a meal to keep her mind off of her revenge on the Mockingbird Company.
The second frame was a letter written in cursive. Some would question why I left a letter but this letter was delivered to me shortly after Dacey's funeral. Someone had posted it through my mailbox but I never got to see the person. But when I opened the letter, it shocked me as of who it was from.
The Letter:
Oswald,
Well, here we are back where we started. On the same road where we crashed into. Expect now, we are not strangers, I thought we would be no more than strangers but then I realized that road we have both traveled down was the same.
We have both changed, for better and for worse. We've come a long way but now you must continue your journey on the road we went down but I will go at the crossroads. I must leave you, Oswald.
You may not understand as you are reading this letter but I know what is to happen to me. Theo Galavan is going to kill me, Oswald. He is going to kill me someone and I'd lie if I said I didn't already know that.
He wants to go off with a bang, but don't worry, I'll make sure he does.
At the start of the road were you and Gotham. I only wanted revenge when I came back but after meeting you, after creating a friendship and falling in love with you, it changed me. I wasn't as driven to fulfill my revenge as I had another purpose and that purpose was you.
You made me who I am, was and who I will become, Oswald. The Penguin, you, Oswald Cobblepot created Dacey Strike. You shaped and changed me in ways that nobody else will. You gave me opportunities to explore every side of me.
The memories I have with you are the best that I created and if I don't tell you before I die, then I forgive you for everything. Killing my mother destroyed me but I forgive you. I can't hold onto a grudge for life as I need and want my friend back.
