Chapter Twenty-Five: Interrogations for the wicked

Dacey's POV:

I sit at my desk at the GCPD and read through the file. The man we had caught, Cole Jenson was a murderer. He murdered many innocent people in Gotham and was somewhat involved with the Wayne murders. But I knew that that couldn't be possible. I scan over the file and sigh deeply.

"Strike?" I look up and see the black haired man. He pushes his spectacles further up his nose and straightened his suit out. I smile at his presence and then nod my head addressing him kindly.

"Nygma," I say before looking back down at the file. I hum to myself and let him ponder. Moments later he begins to speak.

"A man and a woman were driving in their car when it broke down. The man decided to go for help at a gas station a few miles back. He made sure nobody was in the car rolled all the windows up and locked all of the car's doors. He went off but when he came back his wife was dead and there was a stranger in the car. No physical damage was done to the car so how did the stranger get in?" he asks me.

I look back up at him and place the file on the desk. Another riddle. I swear he should be the Riddler with all of this. It would fit him perfectly.

"That's a long riddle," I reply to him. He nods his head and leans over the desk looking directly at me. He places his hand under his chin whilst his elbow remains firmly glued to my desk.

"Can you get the answer?" he questions curiously. I think for a second about what he had just told me.

"Well, clearly the stranger had to be in the car to murder the wife. And it couldn't have been another person. It had to be someone the wife either trusted or was with her at the time. Some maybe not an adult but what if..." I mumble to myself and watch as Ed's eyes light up as I finally come to an answer.

"Her unborn child. She died during childbirth," I state looking into his eyes directly. Ed looks at me over his glasses and claps his hands. Clearly impressed with me he nods his head smiling.

"Correct! You got it right! I'm surprised... No one has got that yet," Ed states. I should feel somewhat offended for his brief comment but instead I grin back. I may be no genius like him but I'm not stupid.

Never underestimate your opponent, my friend, I think to myself.

"I've for to be special then," I wink teasing him. I notice Ed start to fumble with his glasses and a light pink starts to glow on his cheeks.

"Why did you ask me this riddle? There has got to be a point to it," I question. Immediately his embarrassment fades away and his cheeks are once again pale. He nods his head and takes out an envelope from his suit pocket and passes it to me.

"This came for you," he says as I take the envelope and raise my brow. Ed ignores the look I give him and continues to talk about our previous conversation.

"The murders, they have all got something in common," he explains. I look at the envelope and then trace my fingers over it. I didn't recognize the writing. I shrug and look back up at Ed, putting the envelope in my pocket and paying attention to him once more.

"What? What have they all got in common... I'm lost," I question him. He smirks at me brightly and leans down whispering in my ear.

"The person has to be working on the inside which means there's a connection to each of the murders and victims. Something drove the person to kill them. So someone has to look innocent on the outside but had a darker inside." Ed says. I nod my head. He wasn't wrong, he was too smart for his own good. However he was blind and this is why I had no need to fear him.
