"Are you sure you'll be ok?" Joel asked Lily on the following Thursday morning. He was heading into the factory and Lily would be left alone in the large country house they called home.
"I'll be fine Joel. Even if Liam does turn up, which he won't if he has a brain cell left, he can't get past the front gates. He'd have to buzz, and I won't be letting him in."
"If you need me, call me," he said, grabbing his backpack off of the kitchen counter.
"Joel, just go," Lily said.
"Have a good day," he replied as he headed out into the hallway and made for the front door.
"I will. No training, cheat day, how could I not?"
She followed Joel down the hallway, and when he'd left she went into the lounge, sank down onto the sofa, picked the remote control up off of the coffee table and turned the television on. She had loads of programmes recorded from the last month that she needed to catch up on.
Starting with Grey's Anatomy, she soon became so engrossed that when the gate buzzer sounded out she almost jumped out of her skin.
She went into the hallway and looked at the security camera. There was a young dark haired woman in a dark green fleece jacket stood there. Lily pressed the intercom button.
"Hello?"
"I've got a delivery for Lily Scott."
"I'll be there in a few minutes," Lily replied. She quickly shoved her feet into a pair of Joel's Crocs that he'd left in the hallway, and opened the front door.
She noticed how warm it was, the bright sunlight causing her to blink rapidly.
She walked down to the gates, which took approximately a minute.
To the side of the main gates there was a small gate which they used when not driving. She unlocked it and poked her head out.
The woman now had a massive bouquet of flowers in her hand.
She handed them to Lily with a smile on her face.
"Someone's a lucky girl," she said. "Have a great day."
"Thank you, you too!"
She shut the door and took a slow walk back to the house, looking at the flowers. They were beautiful. They were also the third bouquet she'd received since arriving back from Australia. The first, which had arrived the previous morning, had been from her old crew at Prema, congratulating her on her tenth place in Melbourne. The second, which had arrived the previous afternoon had been from Iris and Aidan. Who were these from?
She headed into the kitchen and laid them down on the counter, taking the envelope that was stuck on the cellophane wrapper off. She opened it and read.
My dearest Lily
Words can't express how sorry I am, and how proud I am of you. I made a mistake, for which I can't apologise enough. Please forgive me. I love you so much, and I can't envisage my life without you. Please call me.
Love Liam xx
She rolled her eyes, screwed the note up into a ball, and then dumped it, along with the flowers, into the kitchen bin. What a knobhead! Did he really think an apology and a bunch of flowers could make up for what he had done?
She opened the fridge and took out a can of Coke and then went back into the lounge to continue watching television.
Half an hour later her phone buzzed in her pocket. She took it out, smiling as she saw Seb's name on the screen. She hadn't heard from him since Sunday night. She hoped it had gone well at Maranello for him.
