Ominis sat on the couch in front of the fireplace, his arms leaning against his legs as he thought. Diane was acting strangely, and he wanted to know why. Yet every time he asked she laughed it off or changed the subject. He needed to be more firm about this.
She was out getting some food to make dinner, and when she came back he stood up, taking his wand out to walk after her into the kitchen.
"Diane." He said her name in a firm tone, seeing through his wand-vision the way she tensed and looked over her shoulder to him.
"Yeah?" She asked in a cheerful voice, but he knew it was false. She'd been this cheerful for days... and no one was that happy all the time.
He walked up to her and took the bag from her hands, setting it on the table as he loomed over her. Both he and Sebastian had grown over the last year, but he had a good few inches on Sebastian now, and nearly a foot taller than Diane.
He took her wrist in a firm grip that made her gasp, looking up to him. He set his wand on the table as well, letting his eyes flare with their bright glow to be able to see her expressions while they spoke.
"You've been keeping something from me, and it's bothering me." He said in a deep tone.
Diane looked up into his glowing eyes before glancing away with a guilty look. "I know... I'm scared." She said in a small voice.
"Scared of what?" He asked in a softer tone.
"I don't want to lose you." She said, her eyes filling with tears. "I'm terrified of it."
He let out a soft sound at the sight of her tears, letting his glow fade as he took her into his arms. "Now why do you think you'd lose me?"
"Because I'm so damn stupid and fickle." She said bitterly against his chest.
"Well, you can be naive but you're not stupid." He corrected her. "As for fickle, I'm not sure what you mean." He said, stroking her hair gently.
"Why are you always so sweet? You really shouldn't be this nice to me right now." She said, shaking her head against his shirt.
He was surprised by those words, leaning back a bit. "Why do you think that? I never want to be cruel to you again." He said, confused.
"Well you should." She said, starting to cry.
He heard it in her voice and his eyes widened in surprise that she was crying. What was so upsetting?
"Diane, I can't help you unless you tell me what's wrong." He tried to say it gently. "Why do you think I should be so mean to you? Why are you wanting a fight?"
She gave him a guilty look before turning her head away.
"No," he let his eyes flare again as he took her chin gently in his hand, turning her head so she was looking at him. "You can't hide from me."
Her face crumbled in his grip, a soft sob coming from her. She leaned her head in his hand, suddenly sagging against him as if she had given up the will to fight. He caught her as she leaned against him, rather alarmed how she was acting.
"Please don't hate me?" She said in a small fearful voice.
"Oh sweet, I don't think I could hate you even if I wanted to." Ominis smiled softly, but the fear in her voice broke his heart. She really was terrified of losing him...
"I... I thought about Sebastian too. During my patronus." She said in a small whisper against his shirt.
He felt his heart slam in his chest. What the hell did that mean? "You... thought about him too? What do you mean by that?"
