Unspeakable is officially completely updated on ao3
And apparently this whole beast of part 1 and 2 is now over 300k words. How. What. 😅
——————————
Garreth had finished his potions exam already, and Merlin, had he loved the look on Sharp's face when he'd brewed a perfect grand wiggenweld. He'd been given a passing grade, and with that he was done with his potions training.
But today was the real test. Literally.
The Ministry of Magic was a massive building, and a place he'd never gone to. He was incredibly nervous, but he had some moral support with him. Anne was with him of course, but Diane, Sebastian and Ominis had joined as well. Which was especially helpful, because both Ominis and Sebastian had worn their uniforms for the Ministry to look more official. It was hard to miss Ominis with his white and gold ornate legilimens robes, or Sebastian in his black and silver unspeakable robes.
How ironic that his childhood rivals were his support group, now. It was funny how life worked out.
"Here we are." Sebastian said, and Ominis let out a little grumble.
"I hate this elevator. I'll never get used to it." Ominis sighed, as they all piled into the elevator, holding the bars above them.
"Hold on tight." Sebastian warned.
Anne shouted in alarm as the elevator whipped back before heading down, but luckily the trip was short before the elevator rushed forward again.
*Department of Magical Law Enforcement* the elevator dinged.
"Ugh." Anne held her stomach as it lurched uncomfortably.
"Sorry, sweetheart." Garreth said softly, kissing her head gently before holding her hand as they left the elevator. The place was bustling with people, some carting criminals down to the lower levels to trials, teams of law enforcement personnel in bright blue cloaks walking by, looking at them warily before they saw Ominis and Sebastian's robes and quickly looking away.
"I'm glad you're with us." Garreth muttered, looking to Sebastian as people seemed to avoid looking at him in particular.
"Comes with the job." Sebastian shrugged. He rather liked that most people avoided him at the Ministry. He wasn't keen on talking to people while he was here, especially a bunch of stuffy law enforcement people.
"Where did they say your test would be held?" Ominis asked.
"Hallway B, room 3." Garreth said, after taking out the letter he'd gotten a week ago.
"Looks like we're close. Come on, then." Sebastian motioned for them to follow him, walking down the main corridor through the crowds toward the second hallway with a large sign above it
'Proficiency testing and qualifying rooms'
Garreth swallowed a sudden lump in his throat as he looked up at the sign, his heart hammering wildly in his chest in anxiety. This was it... the moment when he learned of all his testing, training and studying had paid off,
"Room 3." Sebastian said, standing beside the entrance. "This is where we leave you."
"Good luck, I know you'll do well." Anne said, hugging him tightly.
"Try not to overthink too much. Just do what you always do." Ominis said, knowing he always had issues with that.
"And don't be so nervous! You've trained for this for years. You do great work." Diane smiled.
"You'll be fine." Sebastian said, as if it was stupid to even question it.
Garreth gave a weak laugh and nodded. "Thanks guys. Well... here goes nothing." He said, opening the door and walking in. He gave a look behind his shoulder at them, smiling anxiously before he closed it.
