Magic.

Magic is real.

Not only is magic real, but Diane comes from a family who values it more than anything else, and it was the one thing she didn't have... until two years ago.

It made sense. It made perfect sense. The change she'd had, the tonic she'd given him- apparently a potion- and the secrecy she'd used.

And Sebastian and Ominis could also use magic, along with the woman who paced the room unhappily that they were telling him.

"This is a lot to take in." Danny said weakly as he looked at the glowing tip of Sebastian's wand as he cast a spell.

"I know, but if you want to help us, you'll need to know what you're in for. Her family is dangerous, they'll have no problem with using this against you." Sebastian said cautiously.

Danny let out a long breath of shock at the thought, shaking his head softly. "If I hadn't seen that toni- potion- with my own eyes, I probably would have thought you were lying to me right now." He put a hand up to his chest and clutched at his shirt. "But... I got better. And you just don't get better from something like that."

Poppy glanced over to him thoughtfully with the words, but remained silent.

"If Diane needs my help, I'll still go, even if there's crazy magic spells flying around. She helped me when I was at my darkest time, I want to do the same for her."

Poppy stopped pacing and looked over to him in disbelief. "How are you okay with this? How are you taking this so well?"

"Would it matter if I didn't?" Danny looked over to her. "The proof is right in front of me. The proof is me still sitting here breathing. Kind of hard to argue with that. Besides..." he gave a helpless shrug with a soft grin. "I've always liked fairy tales. It's a bit comforting to think that some of them might be true."

Ominis chuckled, smiling softly at that. He really had no idea the world he'd just stepped into.

"Fairy tales, huh?" Poppy gave a soft smile of amusement.

"Besides, I'm not going to go into this defenseless." Danny shrugged.

"No?" Sebastian asked curiously.

Danny stood and walked over to the far corner of the room, taking up a loose floorboard from the floor. He walked back over, and set a colt revolver on the ground between them as he sat back down.

"Let's see how magic does against bullets." He said with a wicked grin.

Sebastian stared at the revolver with wide eyes before letting out a loud laugh of amusement. Okay, Danny wasn't too bad!

Poppy held a little smirk, though seemed wary of the weapon.

"You guys aren't from around here. You don't know what the city is like. I do. I can help you. You said her family lives up on Arlington Street?"

Ominis nodded. "The house in the middle of the street."

"Alright, so we go find their servants and talk to them. Maids always love to gossip." Danny grinned.

"Maids?" Sebastian frowned in confusion.

"Maids, butlers, whatever. There's always servants in those rich houses." Danny explained.

Ominis gave a soft sound of frustration. "They probably have house elves, not maids."

Danny blinked in shock again. "Elves?"

"About this big," Sebastian held his hand off the ground about three feet, "big ears, can disappear from sight. They're bound to their master until they're given clothing."
