This damn chapter kept me up last night. Ugh. I couldn't sleep.
Angels Fall- Breaking Benjamin
———————-
Sebastian came back to his senses, his vision clearing slowly. He was standing, the musty scent of the Catacombs beneath Feldcroft filling his senses as he stood holding his wand out angrily. He could feel the spell leaving his wand, the sharp sting of the killing curse shuddering through his hand before the arch of green light left the tip of his wand. Time seemed to be running slow, watching every moment as if it lasted forever.
No- he didn't want this- he didn't want to repeat this again!
Solomon saw the arch of green light heading toward him with wide eyes, but this time instead of staying frozen, he quickly moved off to the side to avoid the blast of magic. It went beyond him, and Sebastian felt his soul shrivel when he saw who was now standing in the way.
He couldn't stop it. He shouted, screamed internally to stop it. But it was too late.
The arch of green light hit her chest, her eyes going wide as she had barely registered it was heading toward her before it enveloped her. She hardly had time to even blink before she fell to the ground in a heap.
Diane.
DIANE.
He shook at the sight of her motionless on the ground, his world crashing down around him. His wand shuddered in his hand, and as the arch of green light returned to his wand, he could somehow feel it. He could feel her in his wand.
This couldn't be happening. This had to be a nightmare.
He didn't remember running over her, didn't remember dropping his wand. He was holding her, burying his face in her curls as he heard screaming in the distance. He felt numb. His world was gone. The light she had shown into his life had been snuffed out, leaving him in only darkness. Those smiles, that laughter, those gentle looks and soft touches. All gone. What did he have to live for now? How could he go on without her?
The screaming grew louder until he realized it was his own screams, the sight of her lifeless green eyes shaking him to his soul. He was ripping apart. He was shattering into a million pieces.
"Damn fool of a boy." Solomon spit. "This is your own fault."
He didn't even care. He didn't care. He had destroyed the best thing he'd ever had in his life. Numbness crept into his heart as he held Diane, holding her against him as if he could somehow bring her back.
"Diane." He sobbed her name into her hair, pleading with the universe to just give her back to him.
He wasn't sure how long he sat there holding her, staring into nothing as darkness crept into his heart.
"What did you do?" A voice said from the entrance of the catacombs.
He looked up to see Ominis standing there, before he rushed over to see what was happening. As soon as his wand was within range he stopped mid-step, his eyes widening as he could see who he was holding. "WHAT DID YOU DO?!" He shouted in horror.
"I didn't mean to!" Sebastian cried out, holding her tight against him.
"I don't care if you didn't mean to." Ominis said bitterly. He kneeled down next to him, bringing a shaking hand out to touch one of Diane's curls before he moved his hand away as if he'd been burned. "She's gone." He said in a small voice.
The signature magic she had, that warm glow that radiated from her form in his wand-vision, was gone.
Sebastian broke down at the words, burying his face in her hair again as he held her.
