Empty eyes stared off into the distance of the lake, body aching and hunger overwhelming. Damn the orphanage and its head.

Damn everyone and everything. How did it come to this?

As he stared, what caught his attention was a body floating in the semi-clear muddy water.

"Eh?"

Was the only sound he could produce as he blinked.

Brown hair sprawled across the river, black coat that hung loosely around a bandaged body, lips open and taking in more and more of the water, the person, whoever it was...looked, oddly, peaceful.

Like this was what he wanted.

He couldn't help himself, as he jumped in, swimming to the half conscious man and picking him up in his arms, body weak yet getting the last bits of adrenaline he probably needed to pull the heavy man out of the river.

As he dropped the body down and panted, his breath felt ragged.

Why did he do that?

He had little to nothing to get out of this.

"Are you okay?" He got out through gasps, as he stared at the man's unblinking honey eyes, leaning down.

Before a hand came up to his forehead.

And flicked it disapprovingly.

What the hell?

"I was doing just fine, thank you." The man spoke as he got up and dusted himself off, wet and unhinged, or so it seemed.

"You were drowning." The young man glared, as he backed away from the odd guy, a weird feeling in his gut telling him that he was around a dangerous person.

"That's the point. I was trying to kill myself. Meddling brat." The man finally talked, causing him to gape.

"Why would you want to die?" He asked, because seriously. Even after everything he's been through, he's here. Fighting for a chance at the unfair life he was given.

Yet this man, he just....wanted to end it?

"Why don't you ?" The man purred, with a small grin, making him back away further, as the guy took a few steps closer.

"Dazai, you goddamn mackerel, stop wasting time and get to work. This tiger ain't gonna catch itself, bastard." A redhead growled from his right, making him jump in surprise as he noticed his presence.

"You're no fun, Chibi-kun. I was in the midst of a serious conversation about suicide." The man whined, as he stared at his, possibly friend, or maybe even nemesis, with teary eyes.

"I'm gonna kill you my damn self if you don't get back to work. You're the boss now, so act like it."

Work.
