"Hey, I think he's waking up."
"No shit."
"I still can't believe you guys actually came here to see him. How cute is that?"
"Fuck off, McCormick. We like him more than we like you, that's for damn sure."
"Oh how you wound me, dearest!"
"Don't call my- Henrietta your dearest, asshole! It's too conforming!"
"Besides, isn't he your dearest?"
A chair suddenly screeched against the tiled floor and Firkle laughed.
Pip let out a little murmur as he woke up, automatically stretching his arms and rubbing his eyes in a manner which could only be perceived as cute. He opened a lazy eye and that was when he noticed his bed was surrounded by a selection of South Park's finest. He froze for a moment and pulled the covers up to his chest, suddenly feeling self-conscious as he wriggled into a sitting position to address his company.
"G-Good afternoon..." Pip spoke softly.
"Good afternoon, sleepyhead."
"How are you feeling?"
"How am I..." Pip pondered, suddenly remembering who he was, where he was and who was surrounding him. "F-Fine, I think?"
"Cool." stated the goths on unison.
"W-What are you all doing here? D-Did something happen?"
"Well, sorta. You passed out in the corridor after colliding with a dinner cart."
Pip's face boiled to breaking point in a matter of seconds. "Oh."
"Yeah, and that was two hours ago." Firkle informed him.
"T-Two hours?" Pip practically gasped. "Have you all been here that long?"
"Uh huh."
"B-But I've been unconscious..."
"And?"
"I haven't been very good company."
"You're better company than what I'm used to, anyway." Kenny smiled. "Besides, I was doing nothing else."
"Didn't you cancel plans with Kyle and Stan to come here?" Pete asked.
"How the fuck did you know that?"
"Dude, we're literally in the same classes together. I overhear shit all the time."
"Oh, yeah." Kenny sniffed at being caught out. "Well, regardless, I'd still rather be here. Pip's been more of a friend to me than those assholes have anyway."
Pip fell back into the conversation after zoning out for a few moments and found a clawing anxiety chewing up his chest. The fact a bunch of people from his school were actually visiting him was playing on his mind.
They're actually here... for me. Me. ME. I have to keep saying it over and over again because I still don't believe it to be true. Me, me, me- they're here for me...
"Hey Pip, you okay?"
Pip raised his head to see Kenny smiling kindly at him. He slowly nodded and moved a bandaged hand towards his friend, who gently gave it a pat as Doctor Thomas entered the ward behind him.
The doctor was slightly taken aback by the crowd surrounding Pip's bed at first, but it then made him smile. He knew Pip had spent much of his childhood alone and probably hadn't had many friends to support him before this, so found the gesture rather touching.
