There was a knock at the door.
Pip hopped out of bed and slid over to it, heart pounding in his chest. He was really excited.
Excited, but nervous.
Kenny said he was going to come and visit after school and Pip had been lounging around waiting for him all afternoon, absolutely dying to tell him the good news. He was fit to burst. He literally couldn't wait to see the look on his friend's face after telling Kenny someone actually... wanted him.
He was so ecstatic he wanted to scream and hoped the scruffy teen would be too.
Pip calmed his beating heart and put on a neutral face, trying not to look unnatural. He opened the door and his face morphed from happiness to surprise as Stan and Kyle were revealed to be stood in the doorway, no Kenny in sight. Pip anxiously stepped back and looked behind him out of habit, thinking there was someone else already in the room ready to pounce on him, but there wasn't. He turned back to the two friends and gulped.
"Oh! Hello! Erm-" Pip shuffled backwards, not wanting to be in their way. "S-Sorry, won't you please come in?"
"Uh, hi Pip." Kyle cleared his throat and stepped into the room. "Thank you."
"Yeah, um, hi." Stan repeated, following his best friend in. "Er, so how are you?"
"Who, me? Um, fine, I guess. H-How are you?"
"Good thanks."
"Good." killed the conversation.
The three stared blankly at one another.
Pip decided to talk again, still thinking about the friend he'd been expecting to come by. "Um, Kenneth's not here." he squeaked out, figuring they were there to see Kenny like last time. But Kenny wasn't in hospital, was he?
"He's here. He's just buying some snacks in the shop downstairs and told us to go on ahead to meet with you."
"Oh, okay." Pip made his way back over to his bed. He was about to sit down but found it rude since he had guests - guests who would probably break his legs for not doing what they wanted. He awkwardly lurked next to his bed.
Kyle seemed to understand what he was doing and shook his head. "You can get back in bed, it's okay. We'll sit in those seats." he pointed to the bedside chairs.
"O-Okay." Pip hopped back onto his bed, wincing a little as he strained his sprains and other injuries through the effort. The two friends did not fail to notice this.
"Um... so... w-what brings you here then?" Pip almost gulped, really not sure why they were in his room. Surely they weren't there to actually visit him, were they?
Stan and Kyle sat down. After some consideration about what he was going to say, the redhead started to speak, "Look Pip, uh... we know you've had a pretty rough time recently... uh... well, rough time like forever, but we- we'd just like to say, uh-"
Kyle nudged Stan who sprang into action, "Y-Yeah, we'd just like to say we're sorry for being so mean- well- pretty fucking horrible to you over the years. We didn't know about um... you know, your... living situation. And stuff."
"Which doesn't justify it, we know!" Kyle added quickly.
"Yeah, Kyle's right. It was wrong."
"And we never got the time to know you, which was really crappy on our part. We just... followed the crowd. It was cool not to like you, and we were assholes for doing all that shit to you. But ultimately there's no excuse for it. We're sorry for causing you so much pain."
