Pip and Wendy found themselves feeling strangely comforted in one another's presence.
Their conversation had been a little awkward at first, as they were essentially two strangers trying to understand one another, but it soon lulled into something both considered to be comfortable as they opened up to each other.
For some reason, Pip found Wendy easy to talk to about his experiences. He figured it was because she was still sort of like a stranger to him, so it was very much like he was getting an outsider's perspective of his situation. Wendy was also very attentive, making Pip feel like he was actually part of the conversation and being engaged with which helped him out a lot.
"-and that's when Mysterion found me."
After hearing his heartfelt backstory, Wendy remained silent for a moment, having listened to his entire story with a cloud of guilt hanging over her for feeling she was somehow responsible for his entire life not turning out the way it should have done.
"I... I'm sorry Pip. I'm sorry about about everything. Literally everything."
"I-It's okay..." he mumbled, trying to downplay it. "It's not really that important."
"Not important?" she snapped, her hands flinging outwards in protest. "You... you've practically been living as a slave for all of this time. You've been hurt. Traumatized. This has probably changed your life. How can it not be important?"
"I'm not important." he sighed, pulling his hand from underneath hers as he drew his knees up to his chest. He went to wrap his arms around them but let out a cry as a sharp pain radiated up his side.
"A-Are you okay?" Wendy asked.
Pip let out a strained smile. "Sorry, I-" he winced and trembled as the pain shot through him again. "I had appendicitis... or something, so my body is still a tad sore. But I think this is just from the stab wound."
Wendy's eyes went as wide as saucers. "Stab wound? You were STABBED?"
Pip stumbled over his words, forgetting he hadn't told her about that. "Oh! Sorry, that wasn't- I mean, that wasn't done by anyone related to me. I got mugged one time, you see, and-"
"You got stabbed?" Wendy's mouth dropped open.
"Sort of. It wasn't a proper stab though. Just a... light one." his voice went quiet. "I had stitches for it when it happened though. That was ages ago."
"Oh..."
Pip rubbed his side. "I think I just moved too quickly and pulled it. I have to keep an eye out for stuff like that." he said quickly, almost to the point of excitement. "N-Not that that's a bad thing. I-I just have to be careful with what I'm doing. I have a lot of aches and pains and all that."
"I see..."
"S-Sorry, I think I'm boring you." Pip rubbed the back of his head at her limited responses, feeling nervous again. "You can just tell me to stop talking if I am."
"No you're not, honestly!" Wendy cried. "I like listening to you. You kinda stopped talking at school so it's nice to hear you talk now, and so openly as well. That's healthy for the mind so it's all good." she gave him a small smile. "I really like your voice, too."
Pip blushed again. "T-Thank you? I guess you're the only one who does... besides Kenneth."
Wendy smiled. "You're really good friends with Kenny, huh? He cares a lot about you."
"I-I am and I do! He... saved me, so I'm really thankful. I care about him a lot too, but I-I don't really know how to show it." he clenched his hands together tightly. "I've... never had someone care about me before and it... scares me." he admitted with his head down. "Sometimes I don't want him to. Sometimes I wish things were back the way they were, when he was just another face at school."
