Kashvi-

Straightening up my back, I glanced lazily toward the door. Sam stepped in, carrying a tray of food, moving slowly as if unsure whether I was awake.

“Bhabhi!” he greeted softly, setting the tray in front of me before sitting down.

“What happened?” I asked, but all I got was that familiar I’m-so-done-with-you look.

“I was waiting for you,” he said, shrugging. “To eat with you, but you’ve been sitting idle for the past three hours.”

I sighed and dug in immediately. I was hungry, but I had been too tired to get up and go downstairs earlier.

Sam nudged his phone toward me mid-bite. “I’m missing Dadaji. Look at this, he’s enjoying with his friends,” he said, showing me a picture of Dadaji standing by the riverbank, smiling with a few of his friends.

A small smile crossed my face. Sam loved Dadaji, and I did too. I hadn’t realized how much I missed him until I saw the pictures.

“Why so quiet?” Sam asked, handing me a water bottle as we finished eating.

“Nothing,” I muttered, staring at the floor. “Just tired.”

I stood and walked to the washroom, hoping the splash of cold water would wash away some of the tension in my mind.

“Bhabhi!” Sam called, but I ignored him.

Being a good actor didn’t mean I could hide my emotions perfectly, especially in front of family.

By the time I returned, Sam was gone. I checked the clock and decided to head downstairs to see if Mom had returned from her morning outing.

Sitting on the couch, I unlocked my phone to call her but paused when I heard her voice from the doorway.

“Sam! Kashvi! Look what I got for both of you!” she called, entering the room with a bright smile.

Sam appeared from his room immediately. “What is it?” he asked.

“Ice-cream,” she said, almost childishly. Sam grinned and grabbed his share, while I accepted mine.

“And after you finish, I want elaichi chai from your hands, Sam,” she added, making him pout dramatically.

“I should’ve known your intentions,” he muttered, earning a small smile from me.

“I’ll set the table, Mom. You must be tired,” I offered, but she shook her head.

“No, Kashvi. Let him do it. When will he ever learn?” she said, laughing softly.

“She's the drama queen of this house,” Sam muttered, acting wounded as he walked toward the kitchen.

Mom shook her head, smiling fondly as she went to her room.

I focused on my ice-cream. It always soothed me when I felt restless, helping me calm the chaos inside my mind.

“Since only four of us are home, I’m going somewhere today,” Sam said, hugging Mom. “Then I’ll make that old man jealous.”

Mom patted his head, smiling. “I told you to go with Dad and Advika to your relative’s place, but you refused.”

“You’ll never understand,” Sam said, flopping beside me with a dramatic sigh.

I smiled quietly at them, letting the warmth of home wash over me.

After the tension of the function, the drama and everything else, these small moments felt grounding.

If I hadn’t been in such a hurry after seeing Alisha, I might have stayed longer, spent some time with my family.
