Kashvi

"I'll tell you," he said quietly as he stepped closer.

Each step measured.

"Her and I- " he paused, his gaze not leaving mine, "we’re this close."

His hands came up, but instead of pulling me harshly, they rested on my shoulders first as if he was giving me time to move away.

I didn’t.

That was the problem.

Only then did his grip tighten slightly, just enough to pull me a fraction closer.

My breath hitched.

"Or maybe," his voice dropped, barely above a whisper, "this."

He leaned in, not fully, just enough for his breath to brush my ear.

A pause.

And then, his lips barely grazed my earlobe.

It wasn’t a kiss.

Not really, just a slip but it sent a sharp shiver down my spine.

His hand slid down my arm slowly, almost absentmindedly, like he didn’t even realise what he was doing, until his fingers found mine.

Interlocking.

It felt dangerously natural.

I inhaled sharply, looking up at him.

His face was closer now.

His nose brushed against mine and he didn’t move back.

"I'm sure-" he murmured, his lips almost brushing mine now, "this close."

That snapped something in me.

I pushed him away, not harshly but enough and turned, walking straight toward the room.

Bad idea.

Before I could even reach properly, his hand caught my wrist, his grip firm and final.

The door shut behind us, locked.

And suddenly the air felt heavier.

He pulled me back, not aggressively but in one smooth motion until my back met the door.

His hand came up beside my head, caging me in.

"Does it affect you, Kashvi?" he asked.

And this time, there was no amusement, only something close to curiosity.

Maybe even need.

I swallowed.

"If I had the guts," my mind screamed, "you’d already know."

But I didn’t.

I shook my head instead.

"Why would it?" I said, forcing my voice steady. "Be close to someone or be far, it’s none of my concern."

Lie. Blatant lie.

His eyes darkened slightly, just watching.

"Really?" he murmured.

He leaned in again but stopped.

Right before touching, like he was testing himself or me.

Then suddenly, he tilted his head slightly, inhaling near my shoulder.
