Dramatic chapter ahead!

Kashvi-

I was thinking about the interview scheduled for tomorrow when I heard,

"Bhabhi!"

Sam's voice echoed through the hall, instantly pulling me out of my thoughts.

I looked up, smiling faintly as he practically sprinted downstairs towards me, Divya following behind him while Advika chased both of them.

None of them were kids.

Yet somehow, together, they always behaved like one chaotic group of children.

"I've been calling you for so long. Where were you lost?" Sam asked dramatically.

I shook my head slightly.

I probably hadn't heard him because of how distracted I was.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Danish bhai is calling you upstairs," Divya replied.

I frowned.

Couldn't he come downstairs himself for once?

Why did that man always make me climb the stairs?

Sighing softly, I walked upstairs and pushed open the room door only to pause.

Danish's bag was lying open on the bed.

A few neatly folded clothes were kept beside it while he arranged the rest inside with his usual precision, an earpiece in one ear as he spoke to someone over the call.

"Where are you going?" I asked immediately, walking towards him.

He disconnected the earpiece and glanced at me.

"There's an emergency at the Mumbai branch," he replied calmly, grabbing a few essentials from the bedside table. "I'm leaving."

Something inside me dropped instantly.

The warmth I had been feeling since morning disappeared completely.

I didn't like this.

Not even a little.

I wanted him here with me.

"When will you come back?" I asked quietly, trying not to let my disappointment show.

He zipped one side of the bag before finally looking at me properly.

"I'm not sure," he admitted after a pause. "Most probably a week."

A week?

No wayyyy.

Kyuuu?

After everything that had happened recently, the thought of him leaving made uneasiness settle heavily inside my chest.

This house was full of people who loved me.

I knew that.

But somehow, my mind only searched for him, for his presence.

For the strange sense of safety that came with it and selfishly, I didn't want him missing our first Karwa Chauth either.

A weird nervousness crawled through me.

Maybe because too much had happened lately.

Too many attacks.

Too many warnings.

And now he was leaving alone.

"Okay," I mumbled softly, stepping closer to help him pack.

I stayed quiet after that.
