Kashvi-

"Bhabhi, is this correct?"

Sam's voice cut through my concentration, for the fifth time in ten minutes.

I turned, sighing lightly, and moved the spatula through the mixture. The besan had turned perfectly golden, sizzling softly in the ghee but-

too much ghee.

Of course.

"The more, the better," he had said.

Idiot.

I gave him a thumbs-up anyway. "Add sugar now. And keep stirring. Don't stop."

He grinned proudly, like he had done everything.

"Rahul bhai is gonna love this," he said, excitement bubbling in his voice.

"When we were kids na, he used to steal all the besan ladoos from my share and finish them in one go."

I smiled at that.

I could imagine it perfectly.

"And imagine his face when he sees all this!" Advika entered dramatically, holding a balloon. "Best birthday ever!"

I continued shaping the baatis, the warmth of the dough in my hands, the aroma of ajwain and ghee filling the kitchen.

Outside, Divya's voice echoed, arguing about decorations.

Again.

I chuckled.

No matter how much she fought with Rahul, she cared.

A little too much, maybe.

"Bhabhi, yeh check karo na," Sam called again.

"Sam....." I warned.

But still went.

I added grated coconut to the mixture, mixing it evenly before transferring it to a bowl.

"Now we shape ladoos before it cools."

I reached for the ghee, but Mom appeared.

"Give that to me," she said. "Me and Sam will do it. You handle the rest."

I smiled gratefully and moved back to the stove.

Dal-baati for Rahul.

His favourite.

Because today was about him.

Not just his birthday.

But making him feel like he belonged.

"Done with the decor!" Divya announced, entering dramatically, gulping water.

"You should come see," I said.

And when I stepped into the living room,
I paused.

It was beautiful.

Balloons, flowers, glitter, lights and right in the center-

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAHUL

I smiled softly.

I could already imagine his reaction.

Probably loud.

Probably dramatic.

Very Rahul.

"I still wanted a big party," Mom sighed.

Divya and Advika's shoulders dropped instantly.

"Is it that bad?" Divya asked.

Mom shook her head quickly. "No, no. It's lovely. Just we like big celebrations."
