He narrowed his eyes at me, making me shift awkwardly.
“I’m just asking,” I added quickly.
Bad move.
I was a terrible liar.
He held my gaze for a second longer,as if weighing my words, before casually turning back to his laptop.
“Depends on what you do,” he said calmly.
“There are consequences for everything.”
And just like that, he dismissed me.
Monotonous robot.
I scoffed under my breath and walked out.
The moment I stepped outside,I froze.
All three of them were standing there.
Divya. Sam. Advika.
Way too close to the door.
“What?” I asked, folding my arms.
“We were just passing by,” Divya said instantly.
Sam snorted and I raised a brow.
“In short-eavesdropping.”
Sam grinned sheepishly. “Bhabhi, we were just trying to check if bhai knows or not.”
I stared at them.
The room was soundproof.
Idiots.
Shaking my head, I walked downstairs.

Dinner prep was oddly calming.
Mom moved around the kitchen with practiced ease while I helped her, and Dadaji, as usual, kept me entertained with his newspaper highlights-
politics, economy, random scandals and everything.
It had become our thing.
While setting the table, Dadaji motioned me closer.
I leaned in.
“Does he know?” he whispered.
I immediately shook my head and gave him a confident thumbs up.
We were still safe.
Right?
Right.
I had just called everyone to the table when, the main door opened.
My heart dropped.
Danish walked in emotionless.
From outside.
When did he leave?
And why does it feel like I’ve already lost?
“Lag toh raha hai,” my subconscious whispered mockingly.
I forced a smile.
A very fake one.
He walked in, took his seat beside Dadaji, and glanced at him.
Dadaji laughed.
Just like that.
Were they communicating silently now?!
I quickly sat beside Sam, keeping my head down.
Danish sat right across from me.
Of course.
I avoided looking at him.
Because if I did, I knew I’d give everything away.
“This is heaven,” Divya said dramatically, taking a bite of the curry.
