Kashvi-

"Di-"

I turned instantly.

Ree stood there, exactly like she had described-pink and golden, glowing with excitement. Behind her were Mom and Badi Maa.

Everything else faded.

I walked toward them quickly and bent down, touching their feet.

"You're looking beautiful," Badi Maa said, smiling warmly.

Mom's hand rested on my head.

I smiled.

"Where's Dad?" I asked, looking behind them instinctively.

"He's stuck with some clients," Mom replied.

I nodded.

Something in my chest sank slightly. I had missed him last time too, and it was always like this now. That house didn't feel like mine anymore.

Not after Bade Papa made it clear.

So I stopped going cause calls were easier, less disappointing.
.
.
.

My gaze shifted back.

Mom was talking to someone, but her face looked tense.

I knew why.

Bua Daadi had left and even though no one said it out loud, the atmosphere had changed.

Everyone was trying to act normal but nothing was, and a part of me knew-I was the reason.

My fingers moved to my cheek unconsciously.

The sting was gone but the memory wasn't.

"Kashvi bhabhi, you okay?"

Sam's voice pulled me back.

I nodded quickly.

"I'm fine."

I turned to Ree.

"I'll get you something to drink."

Before either of them could say anything, I walked away.

The kitchen felt safer and I did not want to talk.

I poured water into a glass, my hands slightly unsteady.

"Kashvi."

Mom's voice.

I straightened immediately.

"Go serve the prasad to everyone."

I nodded as she turned to leave.

"Mom."

She stopped and turned.

"Are you mad at me?"

The words came out softer than I intended. She walked back toward me slowly.

Her face unreadable, too much like him.

"Did you do something wrong?"

I shook my head instantly.

"No."

She raised her hand and I flinched.

Just a little.

But she noticed.

"Then why would I be angry?" she said gently, placing her hand on my head.

I let out a breath I didn't realise I was holding.

A small, stupid smile slipped out.

I had gone against her, spoken back and created a scene.

And still she stood by me.
