Kashvi, in her daze, ran straight into Vikram Chahal's arms.
The moment he held her, she broke.
Not the silent tears she had been holding in.
Not the controlled ones but loud, uncontrollable sobs that shook her entire body.
Vikram froze for a second, startled by the intensity, before pulling her closer, his hand moving over her back again and again.
" Sam will be okay, bachhe," he said softly, his voice steady, trying to anchor her.
But she shook her head violently.
Her fingers clutched his shirt tighter.
" Papa," her voice cracked, barely forming the words, " am I... a bad omen?"
Everything stilled.
Vikram's hand stopped mid-motion.
For a second, he didn't react, not because he didn't care, but because the question itself was unbearable.
" Nahi," his voice turned firm instantly, almost sharp, " kisne bola aisa?"
But Kashvi didn't answer. She didn't need to.
Her silence said everythin, her broken eyes confirmed it.
And Vikram understood.
His jaw tightened.
" Chal. Mere saath chal," he said, gripping her hand, anger now simmering beneath his calm.
But she resisted.
A small tug.
A weak shake of her head.
" No. I can't go inside."
Her voice was small.
Just defeated like she didn't belong there anymore.
Vikram looked at her for a long moment.
Then slowly nodded.
" Theek hai."
He made her sit on a nearby bench, his hand briefly resting on her head.
" You sit here. I'll bring your mother."
The same tone.
The same assurance like he used to when she was eight years old.
Only now, she wasn't a child anymore.
If it had been anyone else, Kashvi wouldn't have cared.
But those words came from her mother-in-law, the same woman who had cherished her just yesterday, treating her like her own.
It made her wonder if any of it had ever been real.
Kashvi had held that relationship close to her heart, valued it like she would her own mother's love. So when those words were spoken- cold, sharp, and unforgiving, they didn't just hurt.
They broke something inside her.
Tears welled up despite her trying to hold them back.
A small, painful part of her began to believe it.
