First I should probably tell you something about myself. You can't really guess how I look or hear the sound of my deep and unfeminine sounding voice. I'll tell it to you straight, I'm no mary- sue. Granted I have some talent (geez arrogant much) like I can sing awesomely well but when we talk about dancing, to say I'm uncoordinated would be quite the understatement. Right now you're probably wondering how I managed to survive the Australian auditions, if I'm quite honest I don't know myself.
Basically I walked up on stage and sang Taeyang's famous "Eyes, nose, lips" without even saying annyeonghaseyo. There was a quiet chatter amongst the panel of judges, initially I had auditioned for K-pop star but after accidentally shimmying myself off the stage and onto the audience, I can see why I didn't receive a call back from the judges. Luckily for me Yang Hyun Suk had been in the bathroom at the time of my audition which is why I wasn't immediately thrown out upon entering the room. Once all the auditions were over (and I somehow managed to follow the choreographers movements without making an idiot of myself) all that was left to do was wait.
In perfect english Yang Hyun Suk had said " I would like to thank you very much for you time today" he paused probably trying to translate something in his head."I will contact you personally in the next months if we have felt you are worthy enough to join us at YG".
Okay, 2 months I could wait that long it's not like I had anything of great importance going on in my life. Just a continuos cycle of work and university. Sure I had friends that I hung out with after high school ended but we basically talked about old news so I didn't see them too often. The next 2 months passed quite quickly. But in those two months I changed a fair bit.
I cut my waist long brown hair into a short pixie style haircut, I worked out a fair bit more than usual and naturally lost any curves that I had attained over my 19 years of stress filled eating. I was never fat, just solid with a decent butt however always significantly lacking in the chest area. Perhaps these changes could be amounted to the reason why I was mistaken for a guy.
The addition of a gender neutral name like Alex, probably didn't help the situation too much either. It was on the way to the gym that I received a strange call from an international number.
"Annyeonghaseyo, nan allegseu wa malhago Alex?" Said a dude that sounded like he was in his 50's. Instead of responding with something intelligent, the best my brain could come up with was "Yo' I am speaking". I'm going to perfectly honest here and tell you that I had no idea what the strange man had said on the phone. Luckily he seemed to understand my predicament and responded to my rudeness in perfect english.
" This is Yang Hyun Suk on the phone, I would like to offer you a chance to become a trainee at YG, would you be interested in joining us?'' By this stage my brain had actually begun to function and I managed a decent response after realising who I just "Yo'ed".
"Jeongmal gamsahabnida (thank you very much)! I would like to accept your offer!" I would just like to take the time to thank google translate at this point because I would have sounded like a complete idiot had I not at least mustered a thank you in Korean.
"Very good, we will send out your contract, plane tickets and ask that you prepare yourself to leave for Korea in two days". His tone remained business like throughout the entire conversation.
I responded with another thank you and set off home to let the family know the news. Wow a whole two days to pack up and leave the place I grew up. This was going to be a challenge for me but at least it would be an interesting chapter of my life.
The conversation with the parentals was difficult I would miss them and my brother and sister a tonne. I mean who wouldn't miss their family? This was a new beginning for me and I was ready to take it.
10 Hours and 23mins later
"You have now arrived in Seoul, please make your way off the plane and round to the baggage area to collect your luggage". The automated voice stated over the speaker in the plane. So that's what I did, or at least I tried to do considering all the signs were written Hangeul, which I couldn't read. This due to the fact that I taught myself the basics by watching Korean dramas.
While I was trying to find a bus to take me to YG I bumped into someone, hard. I fell to the ground from the impact and immediately went into rage mode. How dare this person knock me down I was doing so well to keep my clumsiness to a minimum today! The guy that I had yet to recognise helped me to my feet without hesitation.
" Joesonghamnida" A deep and alluring voice stated as he scooped me off the ground.
"No problem" was all I managed to say as I held back a gasp after realising I was face to face with big bang's TOP.
So I didn't really have time to stay and admire the beautiful human being in front of me as my bus was about to leave.
I dashed off towards the bus stop and jumped onto the bus. I was going to like it here in Korea I thought to myself, I was going to like it a lot.
