Chapter #6
______________
Louri’s POV
It’s been about four weeks since the accident and the doctor said that I don’t need the wheelchair anymore and I can move around just fine and my side is healed enough that I can go back to work but just dest duty for another month. “Scarlett, can you drive me to base?” I ask my wife. “Yeah, what time do you need to be there?” She asks. “09:00 hours.” I tell her. “Ok I can do that. Are you nervous to get back to work tomorrow?” She asks with her head on my chest. “Nah not really. It’s just desk work.” I tell her.“Welcome back Major Evans. It’s good to have you back.” Tom says, greeting me at the gate. “Thanks, it's good to be back. I have to go to the brig’s office. We can get lunch and catch up.” I tell him as I walk to the brig’s office. “Sir.” I say announcing my presence. “Ah Major Evans you’re here. I’m glad to see you doing better.” The brig says. “Thank you Sir.” I thank him. “Sit down Major so I can tell you what you will be doing till you are on active duty again.” He tells me and I do as I’m told. “So what do you want me to do Sir?” I ask him. “You will be overseeing missions from here.” He says handing me a couple files. “Sir these are all for the 4077th. You’re sending them out there without me?” I ask. “Major your unit doesn’t get a pass just because you were in a car wreck.” The brig tells me. “I understand that but how am I supposed to protect them from here?” I ask him. “They’ll be fine, go over those files then report to me tomorrow.” He says. “Yes Sir can I go over them at home Devon’s still a bit clingy and you know how kids are.” I say, making him grin. I know mentioning Devon makes him crumble. Am I using my child as an excuse to go home maybe or maybe I’m the clingy one but he doesn’t need to know that. “Of course give the Little Marine a hug for me. Dismissed.” He says I stand and salute him which he returns and I leave. Scarlett is going to like this.
“Hey Babe, is everything ok?” She asks, concerned.
“Everything is fine. I get to work from home today and I..” She cuts me off.
“Need Devon cuddles.” She chuckles.
“Yes, yes I do.” I answer.
“I’ll be there in fithteen we’ve got to get Devon from Mom.” She says.
“Yes! Thank you.” I say way too excited.
“You two are a handful, you know that right?” She says and I hear the bluetooth connect.
“I’ll let you go. Drive safe.” I say.
“Louri-” I hang up.“Why did you hang up?” Scarlett asks when I get in the car. “Idon’twantyouinacaraccidet.” I mumble. “What?” She asks. “I don’t want you in a car accident.” I say. “Is that why you get anxious when I have the phone connected to the bluetooth and answer phone calls?” She asks, placing her hand on my thigh. “Yes ok. After the accident I get anxious just getting a car. I’d be more comfortable in a humvee or on my bike.” I tell her. “Why didn’t you tell me?” She asks. “I didn’t want you to worry.” I say putting my hand on her’s. “Ok Mom is waiting let’s go but we will talk about this more ok.” She tells me leaning over and giving me a kiss. “Ok but not with Devon around he doesn’t like hearing about the accident.” I say. “I know let’s go get him. He doesn't know you’re coming. Thought he’d enjoy the surprise.” She tells me as she starts the car. “Yes, let's go get the little Marine.” I say making her chuckle. “What are you laughing at?” I ask. “Did you use Devon to be able to work from home?” She asks and I stay quiet. “You did. You are so clingy with him lately.” She says not in a way that makes it sound bad she’s just stating facts. “What? I only have one kid. I'm allowed to be clingy.” I say. “About that. What would you think if we had more?” She asks, almost nervous. “More little versions of us running around. I love that idea.” I say excited at the thought. “Really?” She asks. “Yes, let's get you knocked up.” I say with a straight face. “I’ll call the doctor when we get home.” She says excitedly.
