Chapter #49
Louri POV
Greg and I have returned to my office waiting to hear from Major Michaelson and Corporal O'reilly. I had texted Scarlett letting her know that we were able to make contact with the Platoon and that everyone is safe. She was glad to hear it and offered to bring us dinner in a bit as we would be working late tonight. “What’s going on in your mind?” Greg asks. “I’m just thinking about the 4077th, they are our men and we could’ve lost one of them today” I say to him, getting a little teary eyed. I hate not being with my unit. “Hey, I know it’s hard because we are not with them but they are a strong willed group. They acted quickly and efficiently because they were trained under your command. That’s why they got out alive” he says, calming my nerves a bit. He’s not wrong. Every single one of them has strengths in different aspects and I couldn’t ask for a better group of marines. As we were talking I see a video conference request come up on my screen from Major Michaelson. I accept and after a few moments Nate pops up on the screen. “Good to see you alive and well Major” I say to him. “Thank you Colonel, glad to be here” he replies. “How are they holding up?” I ask. “Good, we talked and made sure everyone was good on the way back to base. We made sure to take a different route back and that we had no stragglers or followers” he tells me as I nod. “I’m glad you took the extra precaution and that everyone is well. Were you able to retrieve intel?” I ask. “Yes, they were a group known as guyads, we believe they were sent out to overthrow towns and take over territory to expand the taliban territory,” he states as Greg is typing everything on his secure laptop. “We made sure to retrieve all weapons off their persons so that they would not fall into hands of innocent civilians or other groups of the taliban” he continues on. “I had Corporal O’Reilly take any identifications they had on them and we will be sending them over for further investigation” he says. “Very good Major, thank you for this information, we look forward to the identifications and keep up the good work.” I say to him. “Will do Colonel.” He replies. “Please make sure you change guard tonight and take a break tomorrow to go over your next plan of patrolling.” I say to him not wanting to overdo it for them. They need to be clear minded. Even though someone will always be on guard outside of base I want to make sure they still rest so they have energy to continue with these patrols of different towns until we are able to pull them out. “Copy that Colonel.” He says. “Anything else Major?” I ask as he shakes his head no. “We are all set, I will connect with you tomorrow once we go over our plans for the next patrol” he states, making me nod. “Be safe Major” I say. “Will do Ma’am” he says as we disconnect the call. I turn to Greg as he finishes typing up the report. “All set for the General” he says. “Thanks Greg, I am glad you are here with me to take me off edge” I tell him. “Always got your back Lour,” he says with a smile.

Scarlett’s POV
Grace and I have decided to make goulash since it is simple and I know it’s one of Louri’s favorites. As we are cooking Devon comes downstairs and walks over to us. “What are you making Mommy?” He asks. “We are making goulash” I tell him as he gets excited. “I love goulash!” He exclaims. Yep he is Louri’s son I chuckle to myself. I hear over the baby monitor the girls crying. “I’ll go check on them” Grace says as she washes her hands and heads upstairs to get the girls. “When will Mama be home?” Devon asks me. “It might be a late night tonight because her and Uncle Greg have to have a meeting with Uncle Nate on the computer screen” I tell him. “Oh, can I go with you and Auntie to bring them food?” He asks. “Sure I don’t see why not. I bet Mama will love having you visit” I say to him, giving him a kiss on top of his head and returning back to the stove to continue cooking. A few moments later Grace comes downstairs with Maya and Louisa in her arms. “Look at you becoming a pro” I say to her as I grab Maya to place in her high chair. “I’m just practicing for when this little one joins us, " she says, putting Louisa in her high chair next to Maya’s and cradles her belly. “Do you know what the gender will be?” I ask her as I stir the pot. “Not yet, we were thinking of being surprised but I think we are starting to get a little antsy and we might just give in and find out at our next visit.” She tells me. “I hear you. When I was pregnant with Devon I wanted to wait but ended up finding out before he was born and with the girls it was a surprise since we found out they were twins and I asked for the gender and found out we were having girls. Best moments of my life. And so much easier with designing their nurseries” I tell her with a small laugh. “That’s true,” she says with a smile. I finish up cooking and we divide the portions into 4 Tupperware containers. One for Louri and Greg and I wanted to give one to the General as I know he would be working tonight as well and one for the General’s wife as we will be passing their home on the way to the main building so that way she doesn’t have to worry about cooking tonight. We place the Tupperware into totes and we get the girls into their twin stroller and I asked Devon to hold Grace’s hand as we left the house to go deliver the food.
