Chapter #13
Louri’s POV“Hey I’m home!” I call out. “In the kitchen Babe!” Scarlett calls out. I walk into the kitchen and notice a wrap on Scarlett’s arm the kind you get after getting a tattoo. When did she get that? “Hey Baby what’s that?” I ask. “A tattoo Babe.” She says in a duh tone. “I know that I have tattoos as well but I don’t remember you saying you were getting one.” I say. “That’s because it’s a surprise just like that.” She says pointing to an envelope before going back to her computer. “Babe this from the tattoo parlor I go to.” I say. “Yeah look at the design that Bobby drew up that you talked to him about. It’s his gift to you for your promotion.” Scarlett says.
“It’s amazing, Baby I love it. It says my appointment is tomorrow.” I say. “You have the day off and Bobb is closing off the parlor since it will be a long appointment due to the size of the tattoo.” Scarlett tells me with a smile. “Mama that look like the picture in you office.” Devon says. “Yeah it’s the marines raising the flag at Iwo Jima son.” I tell him. “What dat?” He asks. “I’ll tell you the kid friendly version of the story. Come with me to the couch. This is a long story but it’s important.” I say leading him to the couch and once we are settled with him in my lap I begin to tell him the story. “So on February 23rd, 1945 four very brave Marines planted the U.S flag on top of Mount Suribachi, the mountain on Iwo Jima. Even though they were being shot at they still put up that flag. So now that picture has become a symbol of strength in the Marines. Your Uncle John’s Granddaddy knew those men. (A/N It’s my Granddaddy I’m talking about. He knew the men that put up that flag were his friends and he watched as some of them died raising that flag and my Grand Daddy always called it ‘that damn picture’.) So that’s why I have the picture on my desk and that’s why I am getting the tattoo.” I tell him. “Ok.” He says before going back to his coloring in the kitchen. “Can I see your tattoo please?” I ask Scarlett. “It’s not done. Jody is going to do the finishing touches tomorrow while you get your tattoo. “Now back to house hunting.” Scarlett smiles. “Yes Ma’am.” I laugh.

I know this one is a short one but it hits close to home. This chapter is dedicated to Reginald Lloyd Jackson my GrandDaddy may he rest in peace. I also highly recommend reading the book ‘Flags of our Fathers’ by James Bradley. Anygays see you in the next one.
