Scarlett POV I can’t believe Louri got a Black Widow cake for Devon’s birthday. But I know she would do anything for him and seeing him excited about it makes me happy. I place the cake in the fridge when I hear the front door burst open. “Where’s my Godson!?” Lizzie asks walking in with Robbie in tow carrying presents in his hands. “Lizzie! Keep it down will you! The twins are sleeping” I whisper shout glaring at her. “Oops, sorry I’m just so excited to see my little man” she responds giving me a hug smiling. “He’s outside in the backyard while Louri is getting the grill ready” I let her know. “Did you buy the whole toy store” I ask looking at Robbie. “We just got him a couple of cool things. Want him to know he is my favorite Godson” she replies, smiling widely. “He’s your only Godson” I say helping Robbie bring the presents to the living room and Lizzie walks out to the backyard.
Lizzie POV I walk outside into the backyard and see Devon running around the backyard through the sprinklers. “Devon!” I shout to him. “Auntie Lizzie!” he screams running over to me and jumping into my arms. How’s my favorite little man?” I ask and I wipe his hair from his face. “Good! Mama set up the sprinklers so I can run through them! It’s so much fun!” He says catching his breath. “You look like you’re having a blast, go ahead and go through the sprinklers I’m going to go over and say hi to your Mama” I say as he nods and runs off again.
Louri POV “Hey Louri” I hear from behind as I’m getting the grill ready for the hotdogs and hamburgers. I turn around and see Lizzie approaching. “Hey! Glad you can make it! Where’s Robbie?” I ask giving her a hug. “He’s inside with Scarlett putting the presents we got Devon in the living room” she responds making me nod. “You bought him a lot didn’t you?” I question laughing a little as I see her looking everywhere but me. “ I can’t help it, he’s so adorable and I just want to spoil him rotten” she says smiling. “I get it, he’s hard to say no to sometimes. I got him a Black Widow birthday cake he saw while we were grocery shopping this morning” I tell her. “Oh I bet Scar loved that” she says. “She definitely complained a little but once she saw how good she looked on the cake she got over it quickly”. Robbie walks outside with Scarlett. “Hey” he greets me and gives me a quick hug. “Hey Robbie thanks for coming” I reply. “Of course anything for my Godson” he said beaming looking over at Devon running through the sprinklers. “Did Papa Sherman and Mama Mildred show up yet?” I ask scarlett as Lizzie and Robbie walk over to Devon. “Not yet, I’m sure they’ll be here soon” she says as I nod my head looking back at the grill flipping the burgers. “What’s wrong” Scarlett asks putting her hand on my shoulder. “Oh nothing I just feel like I’m useless because I’m not at the base as much” I say nervously looking down. “Hey hey, look at me” she says as she lifts my chin up. “You are not useless, you just got finished with a tour and you have been an amazing attentive Mama to Devon and the twins and you’re definitely a great wife, waking up in the middle of the night taking care of the girls and letting me sleep more. So please don’t think that way ok?” She says making me nod. “Good if you ever feel like that again please come talk to me ok?” “I will” I reply giving her a kiss and smile.
Scarlett POV Papa Sherman and Mama Mildred finally arrived and Devon is over the moon. He ran over to both of them hugging them tightly. “Sweety, why don’t we go inside and get you changed so we can eat yea?” I ask Devon. “Ok!” He replies rushing inside. “I’ll check on the twins babe” I say to Louri before heading back inside.
Louri POV Scarlett went inside to get Devon changed and to check on the twins. I’m standing by the grill talking with Papa Sherman. “You know it’s hard adjusting to not being at work everyday” I say to Papa as I start plating the hotdogs and burgers. “Well you have given many years in combat service Louri. It is a big adjustment but you deserve it and should enjoy spending all the quality time with your beautiful family” he says smiling putting his arm around my shoulder. “I’m extremely proud of what you have accomplished in the military. So you’re not constantly on the battlefield but you’re helping at base here and you also get to come home to your family every evening” he continues. “That is true, I do love coming home to them and talking about our day. I also think Scarlett is looking into starting her own skincare line and I want to make sure that I am helping as much at home so that she is able to focus on that too” I reply. “And you will do great at being supportive and an amazing wife and mother to those beautiful grandbabies of mine” he says grabbing a plate and bringing it over to the table under our gazebo. I hear the back door open and Devon comes over to me. “Mommy asked if you can come help her with sisters” he says. “Sure little Marine why don’t you go over by Grandma Mildred while I go help mommy really quick” I say smoothing his hair back out of his face. He nods and runs off to Mildred as I walk inside and head upstairs and into the nursery. “Everything ok in here?” I ask Scarlett as I see her struggling to get Maya’s onesie on as Louisa is crying. “Yeah just can you grab Louisa, I was able to get her dressed but when I put her down to get Maya dressed she was not happy” she says as I smile and walk over to Louisa picking her up and rocking her back and forth calming her down. “It’s ok Angel everything is ok. Your mommy is just getting your sister dressed, no need to be upset” I say to her softly as I hold her looking at her as she’s smiling up at me. “You always know how to calm them down” Scarlett says as she finally got Maya dressed. “What can I say? I’m a natural” I say chuckling as she laughs a little. “Papa Sherman and I had a moment outside and he said he was proud of me and said I shouldn’t worry about not being out on the field and I should enjoy my time with you and the kids” I tell her. “See I told you, nothing to worry about babe” she says giving me a kiss on the cheek. “Let’s get back downstairs” I say as I carry Louisa downstairs.
Nobody’s POV The rest of the afternoon was filled with laughter and Devon’s excitement over his presents. Lizzie and Robbie got him some Lego sets, one with an army helicopter and one with Black Widow, he couldn’t contain his excitement as he thanked them and asked Louri if they can build a set tonight to which she replied yes. Everybody enjoyed the food and definitely loved the cake, teasing Scarlett a little bit as she shooed everyone away. They took a family picture before singing Happy Birthday to Devon and having him make a wish and blowing out the candles. Grandma Mildred helped put the twins to bed as Louri cleaned up outside and brought in all of Devon’s presents. Louri, Scarlett and Devon said goodnight and goodbye to everyone as they left. Scarlett and Louri tucked a very sleepy happy Devon into bed and wished him a goodnight, waking out the room and heading to their room to call it an evening as well.
