Chapter 7

"Damn it!" malakas na sigaw ko at pinagbubunot ang mga damo dito sa football field.

Today's a special holiday here at Valenn, that's why there are no classes. The school is still open though, but there are only a few students here.

I can't stop thinking about what Val did. There's a huge possibility that she heard everything from the moment I retrieved my necklace from her. That includes my encounter with dad and aunt Riley, as well as the confrontation with Raven.

If ever I encounter her again, I don't know what excuses I will say. I'm pretty sure that she figured out everything by now. Damn it.

I was busy uprooting the weeds when I heard some footsteps behind me. "Leave me alone." malamig na sabi ko.

Whoever it is, I don't have time to deal with them right now. I'm itching to strangle someone named Valerie Parker.

"I feel bad for those innocent grass."

Mabilis akong napalingon sa pinagmulan ng pamilyar ng boses. Ang nakangiting si Elijah ang bumungad sa akin at may mga dala siyang pagkain.

"Get lost." masungit na sabi ko.

This is all Tristan's fault. If he didn't introduce me to this idiot, he won't approach me like we are close friends.

"It's so early in the morning, cousin. Why are you so grumpy?" natatawang tanong niya at umupo sa tabi ko. "Chips?" alok niya.

Sinamaan ko siya ng tingin. "I'm not your cousin. Stay away from me."

"You're kind of scary." saad niya at ngumiti ng matamis sa akin. "Tristan introduced me to your sister Raven the other day. She's nice and she doesn't mind me calling her cousin."

Napayuko ako nang banggitin niya ang pangalan ni Raven. Being forgotten by everyone you love hurts like hell. But being ignored by someone on purpose is even worse. But that's my fault so I don't have the right to complain.

"I'm not her." I said, glaring at him.

And Raven really is his cousin. Of course she wouldn't mind. But I do. It's like putting salt on an open wound. I'm his sister. It hurts when he calls me something else.

"I'm living with someone who's always like that so I'm used to it. I don't mind you being grumpy all the time. I wanna be friends with you." seryosong sabi niya. "I don't know why but there's something in you that I'm attracted to."

My mouth dropped open on what he said. "Please tell me you don't have a crush on me."

I can't even hide the disgust in my voice. Iniisip ko palang na may gusto siya sa akin ay bumabaliktad na ang sikmura ko. I won't even hesitate to say that his mother, Emerald, and my father, Jasper, are twins.

He chuckled. "I don't. Magaan ang pakiramdam ko sayo. I want to be friends with you, that's all."

Nakahinga ako ng maluwag sa sinabi niya. Hindi ko alam kung ano ang magagawa o masasabi ko kung sakaling sabihin niyang may gusto siya sa akin. That would be disgusting.

But still...

"No. I don't want to be friends with you." I said with a straight face.

Mabilis akong tumayo at naglakad palayo sa kanya. Wala pang ilang segundo nang tumakbo siya upang habulin ako. Damn, Elijah.

"Why don't you want me to be your friend? Do you have something against me?" reklamo niya na parang bata.

Typical Elijah. He didn't change at all.

"I have nothing against you. I don't like mingling with other people." sagot ko at binilisan ang paglalakad.

"You sound like my twin brother. But he has a soft side. I know you have too."
