Chapter 28

"Hello, Olivia."

Ilang beses akong napakurap. What is he doing here?

"Mr. Sinclair." tawag ko sa kanya.

Did my aunties tell him everything? Does he remember me? I thought they won't tell anyone about me yet. I don't understand.

"The little munchkins are sleeping in the guestroom and no, Riley and Vera didn't tell me that you're here. I figured it out." ngisi niya.

Natahimik ako. I'm glad that the kids are here where they will be safe. But I still can't stop worrying about my friends. Now that Kaylee and the others are no longer at Valenn, there's no reason for my family to stay there and look after them anymore. I know there's a possibility that Jireh won't go after my friends because the kids aren't there, but there's also a possibility that he will. I'm so worried. Aunt Riley told me to lie low so people will think I'm already dead, but I think I can't do that. I want to go back to Valenn.

"Thank you for bringing them here." nakangiting sabi ko kay uncle Kinley.

"Riley told us everything, and my brother Zeke is really freaking out right now." naiiling na sabi niya.

Nanlaki ang mga mata ko. Is he referring to who I am? But aunt Riley and aunt Vera said they won't tell them yet. I—

"My niece insisted on staying at Valenn, that's why he's freaking out. Especially now that damn corny organization is back." pagpapatuloy ni uncle sa sinasabi niya kanina.

Nakahinga ako ng maluwag. Akala ko— wait... Did I hear him right?

"Kaylee insisted on staying?" hindi makapaniwalang tanong ko.

Dad will really freak out. What is she thinking? I still remember all the hurtful words she said to me. Why would she want to stay there? And I heard only Val and Cole stayed there. Mikhael is here. There's no reason for her to stay.

"Yes, she did. That's why I'm going back there in two days. My people are scouting the place so you don't have to worry about them. They're safe." he said. "But can I just ask, why are my sisters hiding you here? They told everyone that you're dead. I don't understand anything."

I looked away. "You know what happened to Valerie, Mr. Sinclair. I didn't pull the trigger but that was still my fault. Gale Martin is after me, and as long as he knows that I'm still alive, he will go after the people I love." halos pabulong na sagot ko.

"That's exactly why I'm confused. I'm actually mad at you because of what happened to Valerie. That kid is like a daughter to me and you're the reason she almost died. Why are my sisters protecting you?" mapang usisa niyang tanong.

Hindi ako nakasagot. Mabuti nalang at pumasok ng kwarto si aunt Vera. Mabilis niyang isinara ang pinto nang makita niya si uncle.

"What in the bloody hell are you doing here, Kinley?" may bahid ng inis niyang tanong.

"And what do you think you're doing? Why are you hiding that girl here?" kontra ni uncle. "Valerie almost died because of her. We can't trust her."

Napayuko nalang ako. If uncle is mad, I'm sure the others are too.

"I do trust her so stay out of this, Kinley. And don't tell anyone that she's here."

They started to argue. Ang bigat sa loob sa loob na makita silang ganito dahil na naman sa akin. I want to question my decision of telling my aunties everything but I can't. The kids are here, they're keeping them safe. Yun ang pinaka importante sa akin ngayon.

"If Zeke finds out about this, don't get me involved. You can do whatever you want." inis na sabi ni uncle bago lumabas ng pinto.

I heaved a sigh. "I think it's a bad idea that I'm here, auntie. I think I should just leave." ngumiti ako ng tipid.
