Chapter 17 | S1: A Sudden Absence

Sunoo's POV

I walked into the speech debates class, excitement brewed within me as I anticipated seeing Jake. However, to my disappointment, he was nowhere to be found. I felt a pang of sadness, my mind clouded with worry about his well-being. I remembered he told that his second class was going to be speech debates too.

Jungwon, noticing my concern, approached me and explained that Jake was having a high fever. Being his classmate, Jungwon had received the news. My worry deepened, and I struggled to focus on the class, my thoughts consumed by Jake's absence.

As the class commenced, I stumbled through my speech of introducing ourselves, my usually confident words tainted by a stutter.

"H-Hello everyone *gulp* I-I-m Kim Sunoo, I currently r-reside..." Gosh that was so embarassing! I really can't focus even if I wanted to.

After I did my speech, Jungwon patted me in the back as I pouted and laid ny head on the table. Meanwhile Sunghoon spoke.

"Yah, focus on your speeches and the whole class, don't think about anything not related to school." I don't know if he's concerned or irritataed... But I just smiled at him thinking he wants us to do well in class.

BUT! Despite my scattered thoughts, I remembered that Jake had given me access to the Roosevelt Hotel. After class, I decided to visit him, hoping to find Jake there and to check on him.

"Excuse me sir, may I know if your booking is direct or indirect? I'll also need an I.D." The guard told me before I could enter the hotel.

"U-Um.... D-Do you know Jake? Sim Jake? He's my schoolmate and h-he... uhm... kind of given me acce-" Before I could explain further, the guard interrupted me.

"Oh! U-Uh apologies sir, this way sir." The guard bowed and led me to the elevator. I didm't know they were so kind. The guard pushed the 4th floor button on the elevator and left me after saying "Room 413 sir."

When the elevator door opened, I was greeted by the site of white walls, patterened floor with a red carpet in the middle extending towards the other side of the hall, you can really tell that this place is luxurious. I then made may way to the room and upon knocking, I was taken aback to find and Jay opening the door.

"Sunoo!" He exclaimed as he saw me. "Come in." He said. I was also confused why he was there, but what shocked me more was finding Niki also inside!

"Oh, Sunoo! What brings you here?" Niki asked. As I was about to answer, a figure popped out from the sheets behind Niki... It was Jake!

"Oh Jake! I was really worried about you, that's why I came here, is everything okay?" I asked Jake, worried about his well-being.

Jake then smirked and looked at me with puffy eyes "Hehe why are you concerned about me huh? I just got a fever, don't worry too much, it's just me."

"Yah, I was worried because you promised to show up for speech debates class after you dropped me off at my dorm." I said to him, sounding annoyed.

I reached for the pocket of my bag and got somethihg out, handing it to Jay "Here, these are paracetamol effervescent tablets. Dissolve it in a cup of water then let Jake drink it, it'll soothe the fever for a moment. Jake can drink it again after 4 or 6 hours from when he drank it the first time. After the fever soothed, take that time to drink more water, go on a warm bath, eat plenty, then rest, okay?" Not gonna lie, I sounded like a mom there lol!

"W-Wow... O-Okay... Got it, thanks." Jay said.

"How do you know each other anyways?" My curiousity just couldn't contain it's curiousity XD.

"There was a group chat for all foreigner transferee students, we three met there by chance and became friends since we're all from other countries." Niki said. After having a chat for a short time, I decided to bid my goodbyes.

"Wait Sunoo, are you really *cough* leaving now?" Jake then said while I was about to step out the door. As I turned, I saw him, looking like a puppy begging for his owner to don't go.

*SMACK* "AGHHHH YAH!" Jake howled in pain as Niki smacked the back of his head "Don't you understand how it feels to have a fever?!"

"Sunoo said to rest right? Didn't you hear him? Lay down!" Niki said. They were very cute hehe.

Leaving Jake's room, I also said goodbye to Jay and returned to my own dorm, the weight of the day's events still lingering.

*RING RING*

Just as I settled in, my phone rang, and I saw a random number on the screen. Who could be this caller?

Jake: Hey Sunoooo

Sunoo: Hii, didn't I tell you to rest hm?

Jake: Hehehe, well I just wanted to thank you, that medicine worked real quick, I'll eat plenty now

Sunoo: No problem Jake, I really hope you can make it to school tomorrow, I'll bring medicine tablets for you, but if you can't go, you dom't have to. Take time to rest.

Jake: Damn, lucky me I have an angel by my side

Sunoo: *giggles awkwardly* Y-Yah, Hahahah, uhm... How did you get my number anyways?

Jake: Niki, he said you exchanged numbers with him

Sunoo: Oh yeahhh, we'll you better rest now.

Jake: See you Sunoo, thanks again.

As I hung up, a surge of warmth spread through my chest. It was in that moment that I realized the depth of our connection and the significance of our friendship.

Sunghoon's POV

As I watched Sunoo stumble through his speech, my fist, jaw, and heart clenched with a mixture of jealousy and concern. I couldn't bear to see him struggle, but I really longed for his undivided attention, I- I mean um uh he uh he should be paying attention t-to uh class.

When Sunoo's focus wavered, I couldn't help but step in, my words laced with jealousy as I reminded him not to think of anyone else while in class. Deep down, I knew I was being possessive, but I couldn't help myself.

Jake's POV

"Sunoo!" Wait. WHAT. SUNOO?! NO! HE CAN'T SEE ME LIKE THIS. I immediately fixed my hair and looked awake before I saw him, damn, he was bubbly and shiny as ever.

Knowing that Sunoo came to visit me at the Roosevelt Hotel, a mix of relief and joy flooded through me. I felt kinda special not gonna lie hehe.

After Sunoo left, I immediately requested to drink the paracetamol that he gave. I was shocked to feel the fever fade away in just a few minutes.

When I finally mustered the strength to reach out and thank him with the help of Niki giving me Sunoo's phome number, I couldn't help but smile at the sound of his voice. I knew that our friendship was something... special, something worth holding onto, and I vowed to cherish every moment spent with Sunoo.
