Heeseung's POV
As I walked up the familiar path to Sunoo's house, the anticipation of working on our booth for the upcoming event mingled with a slight unease that I couldn't quite place. Sunoo and I had planned this day for weeks, eager to build a booth that would stand out and make our school proud. The sun was shining brightly, casting long shadows on the pavement.
I reached Sunoo's front door and knocked. It didn't take long for the door to swing open, but what I saw on the other side left me utterly surprised. It wasn't Sunoo who greeted me, it was Sunghoon, his ever-present boyfriend. Sunghoon, with his disarming smile and easygoing nature, had a way of getting under my skin. It was as if he had an uncanny ability to be everywhere I least expected him.
Before I could react, Sunoo's voice chimed in from inside the house. "Heeseung! Come on in! We're already getting started!"
I hesitated for a moment, trying to hide the flash of frustration that surged within me upon seeing Sunghoon. Nevertheless, I stepped inside, and as I entered the living room, my eyes fell upon a sight that took me by surprise. Sunoo was hunched over a table, diligently working on a banner for our booth. It spelled "Heesun's Diner" The colorful materials were spread out before him, and he looked entirely engrossed in his task.
Suppressing my feelings about Sunghoon just watching us, I forced a smile and greeted Sunoo. "You've been busy, I see."
He grinned, his eyes bright with enthusiasm. "Yeah, I couldn't wait, so I started without you. But now that you're here, we can really get things moving!"
"Just like we planned, do you think the title's great?" He asked.
"It's fantastic, what will we be selling?" I sat dowk next to Sunoo on the floor.
"Well here's our menu," he handed me a tarpaulin that has foods that we will be selling "Fish cakes, noodles, kimbap, bacon toast, and the good ol' tteokbokki. Can we manage to cook all of these..."
"Of course, you have me." I reassured him as he side-eyed me.
Sunoo's dad, a kind and warm-hearted man, was seated nearby, offering occasional guidance and support. It was clear that Sunoo had already made substantial progress on our project. The anger that had flared up at the sight of Sunghoon slowly ebbed away as I realized how much effort Sunoo had put into this.
Despite my initial frustration at Sunghoon's presence, I couldn't deny the excitement building within me as I joined Sunoo at the table. We had a booth to create, a project to complete, and nothing could stand in our way - not even the unexpected appearance of Sunghoon.
As the day wore on, our booth project progressed steadily. Sunoo's infectious enthusiasm had a way of drawing everyone into the creative process, even Sunghoon, who reluctantly started contributing ideas as the hours passed. It became apparent that Sunghoon, much like myself, cared deeply about making this booth a success for Sunoo, even if our motivations and groups differed.
Eventually, as the evening sun cast a warm glow through the windows, I knew it was time to leave. Sunoo's dad, gracious as always, insisted that I stay for dinner, but I declined, stating that I had to get home. As I gathered my belongings and prepared to say my goodbyes, I noticed Sunghoon following me to the door, his expression weary and his eyes heavy with a mixture of frustration and resignation.
Once we were alone outside, Sunghoon spoke in a low, controlled voice, "Heeseung, I know what you're doing. You've been trying to win Sunoo over for so long, and it's causing tension between us. Can't you see that Sunoo chose me? I'm his boyfriend, and you need to respect that."
