New Beginnings

"You haven't been sleeping well", she was exceedingly worried by now, "what's wrong??"

Geto looked up from his chair. The bags under his eyes said more than he wanted to. His hair was slightly longer, his eyes more dull. He couldn't tell her what he was thinking. He didn't want her to get caught up in all that.

His warm hand reached for hers before he pressed a soft kiss on the back of her hand, "go back to sleep. I'm sorry for waking you up."

"I'm worried about you" she ran her hand through his hair as he rested his head against her torso, "I just can't sleep." He said.

"But you need it." She kissed him "You're leaving early for your mission in the morning. You can't function without any sleep."

Geto let out a deep breath. He wanted to stare outside the window for longer but he couldn't say no to her sleepy face, "come on now".

She held him close, resting his head against her chest. Her fingers gently sifting through his hair as his eyes threatened to close, "that feels nice", he mumbled as he sank into her warmth. Her soft, incoherent hum put him right to sleep. She knew something was bothering him very much and she knew it had to do something with his conversation with a friend - Tsukomo Yuki and the idea of a perfect world.

Yuriko woke up to Geto's lips on her neck. It was barely dawn. "I'll miss you, baby" he kissed her "I'll miss you so fucking much".

"I'll miss you, too." Her hand touched his face "I know you'll be gone for only four days, but-"

"That's 4 days too long without you"

"What about your parents?"

"You'd like to meet them?"

"It's just that... you barely speak about them. Are they okay with-"

"How about I take you to meet them once I'm back?" He didn't want any more interruptions.

"Isn't it too soon, Suguru san?"

"You're perfect for me and that's all that matters, love".

4 days later, Geto returned from his mission. And with 2 kids, surprising Yuriko.

"Oh, my!" She peeked at the two shaky girls "are you alright?"

"This is Mimiko and this is Nanako" he pointed "can we keep them here until the monastery is fully-"

"They can stay here as long as they like!" She felt terrible for the two, wondering what could've happened to them.

"Suguru san, is there... anything I should know about?"

"They're pretty shaky and I know it's not an ideal environment for the other kids here." He didn't know how to tell her "but they've been through a lot."

"Did you find them during your mission?" She asked as she handed them both fresh clothes and they ran back to hide behind Geto, "it's alright" he patted their head "she's the nicest person you'll ever meet".

"Oh, Suguru san... you're too kind" she laughed. She didn't mind that the two girls didn't like her much, she understood that it would take some time for them to adjust to the new place.

"The water is ready. How about you two take a hot shower and I'll make breakfast." She said as she looked at the frail girls "I'll make everything you want me to."

"Tamagoyaki" they whispered. (Egg rolls)

Geto was fascinated as he watched them interact with her and she did everything she could to get them comfortable with her first. It didn't seem like much but the way she used the basics of human psychology to get them to open up to her so quickly, made him smile.
