The next day, I decided to see Chan. I wanted to work more with him on getting his memories back. He slowly was getting there, but it was all fuzzy and he couldn't recall much about his past. I wasn't doing this for my sake, I was doing it for his sake. This was his past. I couldn't imagine being in his shoes. Not remembering anything or the people around me.
I grabbed my shoes from the rack to put them on. Carefully gathering my things. His bracelet dangled from my wrist. I played with it as I stared at the initials. Was this really my fate? Did I really have to fight for my happiness? This all seemed unfair.
I headed out the door, with my bag in hand. I grabbed my phone from the pocket, dialing Chan.
"I'm on my way." I said.
"Alright!" I hung up the phone and continued walking to his house. He lived minutes away from me so it was easier this way. Plus I enjoyed taking walks. It was always my favorite thing to do.
When I arrived, he was waiting for me with a bouquet of flowers. "I got these for a pretty girl I know." He handed them to me.
"You're the sweetest boy I know." I caressed his face giving him a gentle peck on the cheek. As we walked down the sidewalk, we swung our arms back and forth as we talked about everything.
"You're the prettiest." He said as he hugged me. "I can't blame myself for falling in love with you. You're the best thing to happen to me."
I stood there in silence. I was speechless and couldn't form thoughts. I cried on his sleeve. "I shouldn't have made that deal. This is all so cruel to you." He pulled me away from the hug to look me in the eyes.
"I'm not mad. You did what you had to. Even if I don't end up remembering, I love you right now. I'll relearn you." He caressed my head and kissed me, softly. "Let's go." He grabbed my hand as we finished our walk.We decided to go to an arcade. I had never been and it was on my bucket list when I was sick. I felt like a kid. I was so excited, running around to every game they had.
I caught Chan admiring me as I played games. "Now I know why I loved you so deeply." He interrupted. I stared at him. "You are exactly what I need." He smiled as I turned back to my games, giving him a look of adoration.
"Let's do this one together!" I shouted over the music.
"I'm not that good at dancing." I smirked at him as I pulled him up to the game.
"You're doing way better than me." I giggled as we danced together. Switching sides every now and then. All eyes were on us as they cheered us on."Want to do karaoke? I know a great place to go!" I tilted my head at him.
"I can't sing either." I grabbed his wrist.
"It'll be fun!" I pulled him out of the arcade, dragging him to the karaoke place I used to go to with Felix after school when we were younger.
"You first." I smiled as his face got red.
"I'm going to embarrass myself." He put his face in his hands to hide the redness. I pulled his hands apart.
"Act like I'm not here. Sing something that makes you feel, deeply." He stepped up in front of the screen, picking out love songs.
His voice was beautiful. The way he looked in that moment was enough for me to know that I was doing the right thing. It was enough for me to know that I loved him and that I'd do anything to be with him. I'd choose to meet him in every life because he was my purpose, my person. Happily ever after wasn't meant for us, but I'd love him even after death. After a long day of roaming the streets, going to different places, and playing silly games, we finally headed home.
"Thank you for this. I always have so much fun with you." He grabbed my hand. "Why don't you stay with me tonight?" He was needy.
"Let me tell Felix I'm staying with you, pretty boy." I patted his head.
I grabbed my phone, shooting Felix a text saying "I'm staying with Chan tonight. Don't wait up for me. Get some rest. I'll be home in the morning." I put my phone in my pocket.
"Let's go." I grabbed his hand once again, walking to his house. When we got there, he smothered me with kisses and hugs. "You're so pretty. I want this to last forever." He laid me down in his bed, tackling me in the process as we both laughed.
"You're not going to let me shower?" I gently pushed the hair out of his face.
"You can take one tomorrow. I don't like being apart from you." He pulled me to him, putting his head in my neck. He held me tightly.
"Come on, I need one." I tried to push him off, but he whined and pouted.
"Stay with me."
"Okay okay." I caved in and grabbed him.As I drifted off to sleep, I had him in my arms. It was peaceful and the dreams were even better. I no longer had those nightmares.
I woke up to Chan twitching and crying in his sleep. "What's wrong?" I desperately shook him. He wasn't budging. "Chan?"
He shot up from bed. Tears filled his eyes as he looked around the room. He slowly looked back at me. "Nina?" He hugged me tighter than before. I didn't know how to react.
"You're okay. I'm here." I rubbed his back. "Shh just calm down." I cradled and rocked him in my arms.
"I remember." He whispered. I quickly moved back.
"What'd you say?"
"I remember everything." I pulled him closer. The weight had been lifted off my shoulders as I sobbed. He remembers.
