"What!?"

I grabbed the knob, but it didn't budge.

"You heard it right."

Urun's mechanical laugh prickled my skin. I rubbed my arms, wrapping it around my stomach.

"You have to plan bombings in South Dakota, today. Keep everything in check. Go through the CCTV footages attached to a room behind the office. Have a chat with all the heads, keep them at bay. Wipe off the police men in alerted areas."

The last part made me step back. My eyes remained stuck on the door.

Wipe off the police men.

Does he....does he want me to kill the police men!?

No! I can't do that. I consider them as brother in arms. My friends. I can't raise my gun, let alone point it at them.

I looked down at the metal table occupying a laptop, stack of files, call button and a microphone announcer. I had so many questions, but one caught my utmost attention.

How am I eligible to work as Donnor? I am a detective. How could they hand this whole empire in my hands? Are they crazy?

But wait....Urun gave me instructions. I am not taking Donnor's place in a real sense.

Then why?

I exhaled, plopping in the big cushioned chair with wheels. I felt like a small petite lady sitting in a black ass criminal's chair. It doesn't feel good. I curled my body, looking down at the files.

What should I do?

The first natural answer was to obey and hope to find a way at some point for escape. But I wanted to riot, bash out and catch up with my mother, meet Marie, Rick and Daisy.

My hands pulled away from the table on it's own.

No. I can't do it. I can't be a criminal. Even for a day. I can't do it. It is not me. I used to catch these criminals. They kill lives. They destroy families. My hitched up from my seat.

I can't be them.

This was all getting so overwhelming. I needed a moment to think everything through and catch a breath, but it didn't look like I would get the time for that for now.

I stood up, grasping the door open. Much to my surprise, it flew open. I rushed outside the lobby. Urun stood right infront of me, blocking my way.

Oh no. I flattened my chest.

"Look...Urun...i can't do it. I can't be a criminal. You can ask one of the women or that man with a beard to take this position...."

He wasn't listening. He came closer.

"What did you just say?"

I stepped back, facing him.

"I am the exact opposite of a criminal. I can't be one. Even for a short while...i just can't...."

His chest pumped, forehead sunk with lines.

"We have inquired with others. They think you are fit for it."

My mouth split open.

"No...i am not....i don't understand this...your empire must be having second in charge...someone below Donnor...if not then someone below the second...if not then you...how does me doing this thing make any sense!?"

He said nothing to me, but whispered in his shiny black ear piece.

"She is not listening."

I breathed. I didn't want to cause any trouble. Calm. Callie. Stay Calm.
