My soul left my body as i stared at him.
Shaking.
"What!?"
But there was no voice, neither a tone. I was swallowing words.
As we stood on an empty road, his reddened face and clenched jaw told me he wasn't messing around. This was the part that made my feet topple the ground.
The fact that he was dead serious about this.
I stood in silence, my chest cracking under my skin.
He stood staring at my shaky state, folding his arms.
"Did you hear what I said? This is the final step of this mission. Kill him, Callie."
His words swirled in my mind like a hurricane on loose, fastening my breath. I wanted to say something, but i couldn't gather myself to. I stood frozen.
He continued, pointing his fingers at my forehead playfully as he laughed like a robot, continuing,
"Don't just stand there as if you had seen a ghost, Callie. It's all part of the plan."
I blinked down, resisting the urge to not have a mental breakdown right then and there.
I had to ask questions. I had to fight back. I needed to know what was happening.
I cleared my throat, drawing in a breath, muttering in a weak voice,
"But Smith, why? I mean..Donnor...he was never part of the--"
"You are right, he wasn't." He cut me off, grabbing my shoulders to the point that it hurt. His eyes widened in excitement.
"But he is a target now. He needs to be eliminated."
My stomach hit the rock bottom, so did my heart. Everything went numb. I whispered, losing control,
"But why is he a target...now?"
He let go off my shoulders, clapping, each clap drilling a hole in my chest.
"It's simple, Callie. Don't you see it?" He pointed at the sky, the moon hidden behind the hefty blanket of creamy clouds.
"He went against the whole team. He has to be punished."
I blinked at him, not recognising the Smith I had first met anymore.
"What are you talking about? When did he went against you? Everything is over, Smith."
"It's not." He shot back, glaring back at me. My heart raced.
"The plan was to get Donnor killed, not only Gio."
"But why?" I demanded, my voice rising.
"It's simple, Callie." He remarked, stroking his chin,
"You kill him, or you die too."
"What!?" I grabbed his arm, my heart wrenching.
"What is going on!? What is all this Smith? Have you lost your mind!?"
"He hasn't lost his mind."
My eyes drew towards another familiar face, a face i had met not too long ago.
Soft white hair, clean shaved beard and void eyes.
The head!?
He held out his hands to shake mine. I stood confused, but greeted him.
"Uh...sir?"
He nodded, folding his arms alongside Smith.
"It's under regulations to not break the information to anyone else unless and until informed otherwise. Don broke the rule a day before the mission."
