"Right now!?" One of the guards blurted, wiping off the sweat that was dripping on his shirt.
I rolled my eyes.
"Yes, right now. What do you expect? We have like four days left. I don't know about you all, but I don't want to get a false death penalty, for one."
The guards fell silent, glaring at me. One of them rushed back to the jeep, calling on with a plastered smile,
"Where to, next, miss?"
I stroked my chin in deep thought. I had all the items I needed. The next step was to somehow get my phone back. It had all that I needed. I exhaled.
"Get back to the police station."
The guard stared at me, blinking in surprise.
"Back?"
"Yes."
We headed back to the police station. I got out, rushing inside. As expected, the bearded police officer Wick was sitting behind his desk, going through a stack of files.
I sat next to him, tapping my fingers on the table. He jerked up, glancing at me with a strange look on his face.
"You? What ya want?"
"Uh...I need to talk to Taylor...he is the head force--"
He kept the files aside.
"I know, I know who he is. Why ya want to call him?"
I folded my arms.
"He is my acquaintance. I lost my phone. He might be of some help."
His black eyes narrowed into a thick smog. He paused for a good few seconds before pulling out his mobile. He kept it on the table.
I took the mobile, going through his contacts. He had Taylor's number saved, which didn't come as a surprise to me. Taylor was well known in the international circle.
I called, and after four to five rings, he picked up. I tapped on the speaker button.
"Taylor is not available."
I clutched the phone, double-checking the number.
That voice didn't sound anywhere near to Taylor. It was oddly familiar and rough, a voice that made my chest tighten.
Jasper!
Oh no! Jasper is with Taylor!? How? When? I cut the call, glancing at Wick who had his eyebrows raised.
I sat down in a rush of panic.
"Wick! Taylor is in danger! You need to get him...track his mobile number...do anything...!"
Wick, though still skeptical, gave me a small assuring nod. He stood up, calling more men.
"Ya go do your thing. We are going to see what's up with our fella."
I nodded, blinking. He went out of the station, followed by an army of men.
I stomped my foot.
"That bastard! He tricked me! Now he has Taylor's mobile...which means he also has all our chats...oh no...."
I exhaled, my heart drumming. I need to act fast.
One of the guards came inside, handing me a mobile.
"Miss, Wick sent this."
I blinked in surprise. He unfolded my fingers, wrapping them around the mobile.
I opened my mouth to say something, but he left.
Ah....
I opened the mobile, feeding the doctor's number first. I was doing all this for my mom. I need to keep her closer. This was the only way left for now.
