"What are you doing here!?" Don demanded, filling the air with rage and anger.
A creepy smile spread across Gio's face which soon turned into a dose of laughter.
I stood frozen, not able to believe it.
Gio...here...!?
This can't be true!!
I rubbed my eyes, readjusting my eyes, but he was still there. I wasn't dreaming. He was here, like a worst nightmare come true.
"No..." I whispered, my throat getting dry.
Gio pulled the trigger. We both leaped down as Don grappled him, making them both fall to the ground.
People on the street freaked out, running around scared, shouting and screaming. I held Don's back, my voice shaking.
"Get up! We need to run! Don!"
He fought him off, landing him some punches to which he returned the favour with a kick in his stomach. I screamed, pulling him apart as pedestrians watched in horror.
Gio got up, pushing Don on the street as he made a run for it. Don's face seethed anger. He was furious and I had never seen him this mad. He followed him, running.
"Don! Listen to me! This is fucking dangerous! Stop!"
I ran behind him, shouting out of my lungs, but they were too far away already. My palms and feet turned sweaty as people standing around me held me.
"Miss, are you okay? Have you called the police?"
"Miss? Someone call the police!"
"What is she saying?"
Everyone's voices felt like a blur as Don's back fainted through the end of the street, vanishing off my view. I held out my hands, hoping to reach him, hold him in my arms and hug him, but i couldn't.
He was gone. And i didn't know where.
Tears rolled down my cheeks. I fought off the hold, but the pedestrians wouldn't let me go.
Seconds passed a bunch of local officers caught up, all of them circling around me.
"Miss, can you tell us where they went?"
I pointed my fingers down the street, my heart curling into a ball.
"Miss, please stay safe and put. We will get your.."
"Husband.." I whispered in a cracked voice.
"Yes, will get your husband back."
With that, officers headed back inside their car, speeding in that direction. I kept fighting off the hold, shouting,
"Please! Leave me! Let me go! I need to see him...i need to help him.."
My voice broke.
"I need him back..."
"Miss, it would be safe if you----"
"Stop it!" I screamed, jolting my arm away in a snap. They all stood with their faces hanging, not able to process what just happened.
I ran off the street, my heart pounding out of my chest.
"Don..."
I whispered, my lungs aching and legs turning weaker and weaker by the second.
Everything else around me felt like a blur. It was like a tunnel vision. All I could see was the street up ahead and nothing else mattered anymore.
I kept running, out of breath, my chest aching. But i didn't stop. Faint, distant sound of police sirens came from a distance, signalling that I was on the right path.
