The air halted. The world around me stopped.

His words spun in circles, evolving into a tornado.

Let me go. Let me go. Let me go.

My heart swirled in a whirlpool. A thousand thoughts ran through my head, but nothing that could reach the tip of my lips.

I folded my arms instead, staring at his knitted eyebrows and red cheeks.

He was angry and frustrated.

I could feel the conflicting energy scraping off my skin.

We both stood helpless, and somewhere deep inside we both knew it.

Silence filled the air in a cripple as he slowed the boat down to the edges. I wasn't sure where we were, but we were far away. Far away from all shouts and screams.

"Get off." He muttered under his breath, barely letting his voice reach me.

But it did.

I breathed, getting out. He did too, and soon enough we were walking down what should be a large corn field.

"Where the heck are we...!?" I asked, spinning around, soaking in the view. There were no shops, streets or people, but long, lush green fields accompanied by birds flying around and scarecrows.

"Looks like we are in a village farm?" He suggested, pretending as if he wasn't shouting at me earlier.

I was still holding onto his words. I knew he didn't mean it, but i couldn't help but think if he was right afterall.

What if letting go was the best option?

We walked down the fields in silence, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere and chirping of the birds. Sun was setting down the horizon, casting an orange-yellow hue on the fields.

It felt like we were altogether in a different world, a world that only contained us as humans.

"How did we reach...here? This place seems far off from the city."

Don muttered under his breath, raising his chin.

I nodded in agreement, confused as heck.

"I mean the boat was at top speed...so the idea isn't that far fetched."

"Ahh...but still..." He said, his voice fainting with the sun.

I scratched my chin, not sure what to say. It was strange because we had so much to say earlier, yet all of that evaporated like a monday blue.

We didn't even know where we were headed, rather than walking past a field of corn field smelling of grain and dry sun.

"Callie." He held my hand.

I looked up at him, observing the features of his face grow tense by the minute.

"We can't keep going like this. We have to make a decision."

I drew in a long breath, considering what he had to say for a good minute.

I sighed. He was right.

"Don, I don't get it. We can stay together."

"This is not right." He said, squeezing my hand, as if to wake me up,

"We are just running away in order to stay together. We are leaving thousands of--"

"So what do you want me to do? Leave you there to die?" I asked, a wave of familiar frustration prickling my skin.

He stopped, making me look at his eyes, washed over by the dim sunset light.
