"Is she alive?"
"Hard to say, Miss."
Facing voices racked my brain in a jumble.
I don't know where I was or what was happening, but I was surrounded by blackness.
My eyelids felt like a heavyweight, holding me off from my opening my eyes. My arms and legs felt like they were hammered down with a nail. My chest? It felt like it would explode any second.
Seconds passed in silence, turning into minutes, then hours. I laid in the same state, trying to get one of my body parts moving, even if an inch but atleast moving, but it wouldn't budge.
Maybe I was being held...by someone? A kidnapper!?
The thought jolted me awake, initiating a movement around my eyes. My eyelids flickered, suddenly my eyes bouncing open.
"She is alive!!" The same voice asking if I was alive earlier hit my ears. But this time my brain made the effort to make the connection. My eyes rested on her pretty face overloaded by forehead lines and reddened eyes.
My mom!!
I woke up from my bed, my chest aching as i coughed, which soon turned into a series of coughs.
She wrapped her arms around me, rubbing her hand across my face in delight. Her face looked like she had been crying for a good few days.
My eyes flickered down, realising that I was in a hospital room. One of the doctors arrived, sitting down on a stool facing me.
"Miss, how do you feel?"
"Uh..." I hesitated,
"I am fine...i think..."
He nodded, making some notes as he continued,
"You had plunged yourself in the river. Police officials spotted you at the right time."
That is when the realisation hit me like a ton of bricks falling over my head.
Don!!!
I stood up, gasping,
"Where is Don!? I need to see him!"
He stood up, signalling me to calm down. My mom stood in dead silence, looking down the floor.
But then I remembered it. All crystal clear like an image imprinted on my brain.
He had that soup...he had that...
"Who did it!!?" I screamed, tears bubbling down my cheeks. The doctor was taken aback by my sudden outrage.
My mom held my arms,
"Dear...calm down--"
"How can I calm down mom!!? Someone murdered my husband! MURDERED!!" I shouted, glaring at her as my body fumed. The doctor stepped in.
"Miss, the investigation for the same has been going. You have been unconscious for the past two days. Water build up in the chest alongwith exhaustion and stress contributed to it being long."
"Do we have any updates!?" My voice tuned down a bit as some explanation was provided to me, some relief that the investigation was ongoing.
He nodded, keeping his pen on the table.
"We do. The officials are apparently aware of what had happened."
"I need to talk to the officials." I said, leaving the room in an outburst, slamming the door shut.
I walked down the hospital corridor, bumping into officials on the way myself.
"Oh I am so sorry!" The officer exclaimed, but then his eyes met mine.
