The police and Donnor were busy chatting while the medicos came to the rescue, one of them inquiring me.
"Everything fine ma'am?"
"Ah...yes."
With a nod, the medico left. Officers checked up on Watt, tapping off the scene quickly.
I stood for a minute, watching Donnor give details about what happened and the officer writing it all down in his classic notepad.
Uh...this situation was way too complex for my liking.
How do I approach this when I know that the officers are involved with Donnor in all this...Donnor...who is not actually Donnor...not a terrorist!?
I breathed, calming down my nerves as i approached them, passing a nod. The officer looked up at me, sliding his glasses down.
"Mrs Callie?"
"Uh...yes...and officer..."
"I am James. James Rilton. Newly admitted to the squad. But you are well known around here..."
I scratched my head, while Donnor's piercing eyes remained on me.
"Ah...no surprise there..."
I muttered under my breath, my fingers curling into a fist.
"Donnor here has told us everything. Mrs Callie, we advise you to stay with what has been told to you. Smith is working with us. It's for the good."
I nodded, shooting him a big, plastered smile.
"Yes, i wasn't really trying anything. The killer came up on his own, out of nowhere."
"She is right, officer. I was with her."
Donnor spoke up for the first time since the awkward talk between me and Rilton. In any other case i would have hated it, but this time i was glad that he intervened.
Rilton nodded, keeping his notepad in his back pocket as he addressed us both.
"In any case, we will try our best to catch the killer. He keeps escaping through the narrow linings."
"Or you guys just don't want to catch him yet."
I blurted, instantly regretting for not controlling myself.
Rilton's stare seized me to my core. It was a dark tornado, reminding of the black void eyes of the head back in the headwaters.
I coughed, clearing up the air.
"I mean it's crazy how this killer just keeps getting away everytime. Hopefully he will be caught soon."
Rilton held my shoulders, giving it a press. I glanced at his fingers digging through my skin, making my stomach curl in a weird, bubbly sensation.
"Callie, as I said.."
He shifted closer, his glasses twinkling under the guise of the light coming from streetlight falling in.
"Mind your own fucking business."
My breath rustled at the harshness of his words, sounding more like a warning than anything else.
Donnor's hand went on his, his eyes marching out on him in a war. It felt like I was a witnessing a making of a tornado in the process.
I stood still, as Rilton's glare didn't leave Donnor's rock hard face. He pulled back his hand from my shoulder, wiggling it away from Donnor's hand weighing on top of his.
The tension stood impeccable, making my heart sink. Rilton stretched his arms, staring at Donnor's rock edged face. His hand remained on my shoulder, tightening.
