"You must be pretty trustworthy to be put in charge of such delicate antique books. Mr. Mooney must be a smart man" Ella replied, a glint in her eyes as her head tilted. Though his passion about his ex did catch her off guard slightly. Who he was? In a way..she understood. After Evan and Ella cut things off with each other, it was often that Evan would bring around his new girlfriends. And they were always so different than Ella. Petite cute blondes that liked to party and go to sports games. They didn't believe in true crime or conspiracy theories and they checked their calorie count, like daily. It did make Ella feel weird. Because if she wasn't his type, if she wasn't what he wanted..why did he even show interest in her. He didn't even like her..for her.
"It's okay..I actually know exactly what you mean. If you can't be 100% yourself in a relationship, then who can you be?" She smiled sadly for a moment, but Ella's eyes suddenly lit up when Joe asked to walk her home. She stood up along with him with a smile.
"And a gentleman? I like gentlemen.." She teased pushing her hair back and letting her flannel slide slightly down her shoulder but she didn't attempt to pull it back up as she walked past Joe to leave the cafe. She stopped outside the door, taking in the smelly stuffy scent of New York's air. She turned her head to Joe as he followed her out before she pointed to the right in the direction of her apartment, taking the lead as they walked along together.
"So..Joe..I've yet to learn last name, which would've made it a lot easier to find you on Facebook-" She said, catching herself as she closed her eyes embarrassingly, gently slapping her palm over her forehead. Did she just openly admit she was trying to find him on Facebook. "Not that I was looking or anything-I mean I was but not in a creepy follow you home way- but like...I thought you were cool so I wanted to be your friend?" she continued, her voice going higher as she tried to make her excuse sound as reasonable as she could. "Is that still weird? Sorry" she laughed softly, looking down to the ground.
"It's just..there's not a lot of people, my age, that aren't on social media so I was just intrigued a little. So i thought is he like a mysterious guy who truly prefers books over people or is he like a secret murderer and keeps bodies in his basement" she laughed, her hand moving as she talked before she crossed her arms across her chest and glanced to him. "But I was hoping it was the first one..?"
